LaTrina Leary re-elected as Peoria Township Supervisor
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — With all the ballots in, LaTrina Leary will serve another four years as the Peoria Township Supervisor, beating out two challengers.
Leary, a Democrat, ran against Frank Abdnour, an independent, whom she beat four years ago to take the supervisor position. Also in the field was Republican Anita J. Meeker who ran unsuccessfully for circuit clerk in 2020 against Robert 'Bobby' Spears.
With 100% of the vote in, Leary had 44% of the vote or 6.054 to Abdnour's 31% or 4,177 votes. Meeker had 3,482 votes or 26% of the votes.
The same percentages had held up all night. Voter turnout was about 23%, according to numbers provided by the Peoria County Election Commission.
In 2021, Leary beat Abdnour by two votes in the Democratic primary and with no one running against her in the general election, assume the job.
The township takes in about 75% of the city of Peoria and nothing outside of the city limits. The township's primary job is to assess property and general assistance to the needy. Unlike the other townships within Peoria County, Peoria Township doesn't have its own road commissioner.
