Saudi Film Commission announces launch of JAX Film Studios in Riyadh
Set for completion in 2025, the facility will feature two sound stages and a high-tech virtual production unit using Sony's latest screen technology.
Saudi Film Commission has unveiled plans for JAX Film Studios, a state-of-the-art production complex in Riyadh set to become a major film and media hub in the region. Slated for completion in 2025, the facility will span more than 7,000 sqm and offer two expansive 1,500-sqm sound stages, as well as a cutting-edge virtual production unit equipped with Sony's latest screen technology.
Designed to meet the evolving demands of modern filmmaking, the studio will also include a private cinema, reception and event spaces, and fully outfitted production preparation areas. The facility aims to provide a comprehensive environment for both local and international filmmakers.
Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO, Saudi Film Commission, said: 'Jax Film Studios represents a cornerstone of our strategy to develop a world-class film infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
'As we become one of the region's premier production hubs, this facility is built to meet the highest international standards — empowering local creatives while attracting global talent.'
Abduljalil Alnasser, the commission's general manager of sector development and investment attraction, added: 'With Jax Film Studios, we are introducing one of the world's most advanced and largest virtual production stages, powered by Sony's latest innovations, unlocking limitless creative possibilities.'
The launch of JAX Film Studios forms part of the Commission's broader initiative to bolster cinematic infrastructure, nurture homegrown talent, and forge international partnerships. These efforts align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals to transform the Kingdom into a global centre for media and film production.
The announcement was made during the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, where the Saudi Film Commission hosted a national pavilion that garnered considerable interest from global filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals.
