Man Who Tried to Enter London's Israeli Embassy Charged With Terrorism
Police in London said on April 30 that they had charged a man with terrorism offenses and possession of a bladed weapon after he was arrested on suspicion of trying to gain access to the Israeli Embassy in the British capital. The Metropolitan Police said a man was detained by officers as he was attempting to get into the grounds of the Jewish state's embassy in South Kensington, West London, on the evening of April 28. Officers prevented his entry and arrested him on suspicion of a public order offense, trespassing on a designated site, and possession of an offensive weapon. On April 30, counterterrorism detectives said the man, 33-year-old Abdullah Sabah Albadri, had been charged with preparation of a terrorist act and two counts of possession of a bladed article. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, 'I would like to reassure the public, however, that from our enquiries so far, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter and we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public. Albadri, described by British police as having 'no fixed abode,' is set to appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. The Israeli Embassy said in a statement that its diplomats had always been 'subjected to terror threats and even more so after the 7th of October, 2023.' 'We are relieved to report that this attack was prevented by the British security forces and that no injuries occurred and all embassy staff and visitors are safe,' the embassy 'We thank the British security forces for their immediate response and ongoing efforts to secure the Embassy. LONDON -- London's police force charged a man Wednesday with a terror offense after he was detained trying to enter the grounds of the Israeli Embassy while in possession of what appears to have been a knife of some sort. Abdullah Sabah Albadri, 33, has been charged with preparing 'terrorist acts' and of two counts of possession of a pointed or bladed article, London's Metropolitan Police force said in a statement. The incident took place on Monday shortly before 6 p.m. when officers from the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command became aware of a man attempting to gain unauthorized access to the embassy's grounds in Kensington in west London, police said. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Counter Terrorism Command, said that inquiries so far indicated that no one else was involved and that there was no wider threat to the public. 'Although the man has now been charged, we continue with our investigation and would urge the public not to speculate further at this time," he added. Albadri is due to appear in court later Wednesday.

An alleged knifeman carrying a martyrdom note tried to break into the Israeli embassy in London by scaling the 8ft fence in front of the building, a court has heard. Abdullah Sabah Albadri, 33, of no fixed address, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with preparation of terrorist acts and two counts of possession of a pointed or bladed article. It is claimed that he wrote a martyrdom note and went to the embassy in Kensington on Monday armed with two kitchen knives. Speaking only to confirm his identity, bearded Albadri appeared flanked by two dock officers wearing a black sweatshirt and grey trousers. The court heard that he wanted 'to send a message to the Israeli government to stop the war'. He was arrested at around 6pm on Monday by officers from the Met's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command as it is alleged he tried to enter the site. Earlier, Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said there is no wider threat to the public. The embassy also published a statement on X, formerly Twitter, thanking British security forces for 'their immediate response and ongoing efforts to secure the embassy' and confirming that all staff and visitors were safe. Albadri was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on May 7.
