Oman aim for strong start against Italy

MUSCAT: The Oman beach soccer team will hope to register a strong start as they will meet Italy in a tight crunch on Friday in the opening match of Group D at the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup which is underway from Thursday and will run until May 11 in Seychelles. The match will kick off at 3 pm (Oman Time) at the Paradise Arena in Mahe Islands. In the same group, world champions Brazil will meet El Salvador at the same venue and the match will begin at 7 pm (Oman Time). Oman team, coached by experienced head coach Talib Hilal, will chase their first knockout round berth in their sixth appearance at the global showpiece event. The national team players are in good shape after completion of last warm-up sessions in Seychelles as the team arrived to the largest island of Seychelles in Mahe last week. The Oman team played two friendly matches recently as they won against hosts Seychelles by 4-3 while they suffered a 3-1 loss against Paraguay. Both matches were final rehearsals ahead of the World Cup. Oman played two friendly matches with win against Seychelles and loss against Paraguay. The Oman team players will aim to register a positive start in the opening game against Italy as they will meet El Salvador, champions of 2025 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship, on Sunday before concluding the group matches against World Champions Brazil on Tuesday. The opponents, Italy, had attended the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup for nine times in the history and their best finish was ending as runners-up in 2008, 2019 and 2024. Italy featured many top players but coach Hilal and his battalion are in best shape to compete and earn the desired result. Coach Talib Hilal will rely on many experienced players who took part in the previous editions of Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup. NEXT STEP Oman's Abdullah al Souti affirmed in an interview with Fifa website that Oman feels Seychelles like the perfect place to make history. 'We are ready to take the next step in order to advance to the quarterfinals. We are an ambitious team. We are ready to face any team and we are confident in our abilities. Our group is a very strong group, and we will fight to advance.' 'It's a great feeling and it has given me great confidence,' said Al Sauti. Muscat: Oman beach soccer team began their campaign at AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025 with an emphatic 7-1 victory over Vietnam in Group D at the Jomtien Beach Arena on Friday. The triumph delivered three crucial points for champions of 2015 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup. Oman will meet Malaysia on Sunday in the following clash while Vietnam aim to bounce back as they will face Bahrain on the same day. Oman players kicked off the match strongly as they created many scoring attempts seeking early goals. Abdullah al Souti opened the scoring account in the early in the game as he sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal while Sami al Balushi doubled the result for Oman through a penalty kick as Oman led 2-0 in the opening period. In the second period, Mashal al Oraimi scored the third goal to make it 3-0 with a long-range strike before Abdullah al Souti returned to extend the lead by scoring the fourth goal and his second as Oman led 4-0. In the third and deciding period, Vietnam players pressed hard towards Oman's side as they managed to reduce the scoring gap by scoring their first goal through Ho Quoc Hung. Musallam al Oraimi strengthened Oman's lead as he found the target twice in the third period as he scored the sixth and seventh goals to make it 7-1. The Oman team will aim to secure spot in the quarterfinals and go further in their eighth Asian appearance. The main target of the Omani players is to repeat the memories of 2015 as the team had crowned as champions of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup. Furthermore, Oman were also silver medallists at the Asian Beach Soccer Cup in 2011 besides winning bronze medals in 2009 and 2019. Under technical guidance of coach Talib, the national team won a gold medal in the Asian Beach Games in 2008. Furthermore, Oman had reached Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup five times in history.

Russia beat Oman for second straight friendly win

MUSCAT: The Russian beach soccer team registered their second straight win against Oman national beach soccer team by 6-3 in a preparatory match on Wednesday night at the sandy court of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The opening international friendly between both teams ended in favour of Russia too by 6-5 on Monday night. Oman team players will move ahead in their underway domestic camp until March 10 as it will include two further preparatory games against Belarus which are scheduled on Saturday and Monday. The camp is part of the team's preparations for the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025 which will take place in Pattaya in Thailand from March 20 to 30, 2025. In the second friendly encounter between Oman and Russia, head coach of Oman team Talib Hilal began the game with a line-up similar to the last game featuring goalkeeper Younis al Owaisi, Khalid al Oraimi, Mundhir al Oraimi, Yahya al Murkhi and Abdullah al Souti. In the first period of the match, Russia entered the match strongly as they scored through Zemskov Fedor but the response was very quick from Oman as Mundhir al Oraimi managed to register the equaliser. The match referee started to show some yellow cards for both team players due to some tough interfaces. The Russian side were more intensified in attacking area but Oman's defenders blocked all their attempts as the first set ended at 1-1 draw. Later, Oman managed to reduce the deficit through Abdullah al Souti and Musallam al Oraimi who revived the hopes by registering Oman's third goal to make it 3-3. Few minutes later, Russia responded with a fourth goal from Romanov Kirill and then fifth from Romanov Kirill before Vinogradov Amadeus sealed the win with sixth goal. Oman's Abdullah al Souti and Yahya al Murkhi received red cards while Khalid al Oraimi was shown a yellow. The match ended with Russia winning 6-3.

The friendlies are among the team's programme for preparations for the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025 in Pattaya, Thailand from March 20 to 30. The match against Russia ended with many positive outcomes despite the narrow defeat. The experienced national head coach Talib Hilal implemented different technical tactics and gave chances for new faces in the game. The first period of the match ended in a goalless draw despite some active scoring attempts through Khalid al Araimi, Yahya al Murkhi, Abdullah al Souti besides others. All 11 goals were scored in the second and third periods as the opponent took advantages of Oman's shortage in the second period following Sami al Balushi's red card as the Russia went up 2-0 in the period. In the third and deciding period, the visitors extended their lead despite goals netted by Oman through Khalid al Araimi, Abdullah al Souti, Yahya al Murkhi and Abdulrahman al Fazari. This event is very crucial for the national team as the Asian event will act as qualifiers championship for the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup. The top three teams in Asian event will earn direct spots for the 2025 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles in May. The current camp in Bausher, which concludes on March 10, will feature two more preparatory games against Belarus, scheduled on March 8 and 10. Belarus confirmed their seat at the 2025 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup. Oman and Russia players fight for the ball.
