Boy killed in road tragedy is buried in white coffin

A four year old boy who was killed in a horror road tragedy in Mullingar on Easter Monday was laid to rest in a white coffin today. Tearful mourners gathered at Newcastle Cemetery in Dublin for the burial of Abdur Rahmen, who was killed when he was struck by a car in Farranshock Estate in the Westmeath town. Hundreds of people had earlier attended prayers for Abdur at the Islamic Cultural Society Centre in Mullingar. The little boy was killed just days after he had celebrated his fourth birthday, with his devastated family revealing he still hadn't opened all his presents. Abdur was fatally injured when he was struck by a car only a matter of yards from his home in the housing estate shortly after 6:30pm on Monday. Despite desperate attempts to save the youngster both at the scene and en route to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital, Abdur passed away a short time later from his injuries. Floral tributes continue to be left at the scene of the incident, one of which poignantly read: 'Little man' while surrounded by a sea of other moving messages of sympathy. It is understood the little boy's parents had only recently celebrated the birth of their second child. Both originally hail from Pakistan, but have resided in Ireland for a number of years. Mullingar Islamic Cultural Society revealed Abdur's funeral took place earlier today at Mullingar's Mosque or Masjid. His white coffin was then later carried to his final resting place in Newcastle cemetery in Dublin. Grieving family friend Naveed Iqbal told how Abdur had not even opened all his birthday presents. Fighting back tears, Mr Iqbal said: 'They (the family) were keeping some for him so he could open one every day. 'The family just moved here a few months ago. We helped them move. 'They are a hardworking family, same as everyone here. 'It's so sad for everyone. His birthday party was on Saturday. He was still to open some gifts. There are no words.'
