IMD: Scattered to moderate showers in store till May 23
Pune: The city experienced scattered light showers on Saturday, but with less intensity than Friday's rainfall. The IMD said Pune could expect partly cloudy skies becoming generally cloudy towards afternoon and evening on Sunday, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph).
"We are witnessing pre-monsoon activity across various parts of Maharashtra, including Pune. These are typical transition period showers characterised by brief spells accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds," an IMD official said. The rainfall that was recorded in Pune from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturday showed NDA at 2mm, followed by Rajgurunagar (1.5mm), Haveli, Magarapatta, Daund and Talegaon (0.5mm each).
The weather agency forecasted isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-50kmph over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada and Gujarat during May 17-23, and over Konkan and Goa during May 17-20.
The department has also warned of thundersqualls.

Seven of the deaths were caused by lightning strikes alone.
A senior official of the Nashik divisional commissionerate reported casualties across Ahilyanagar, Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts. "The rain lashed Ahilyanagar, Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar with huge intensity over the past one-and-a-half weeks, claiming in all 12 lives, seven due to lightning and others due to rain-related incidents like falling trees. The rain also caused damage to the crops, orchards of grapes and pomegranates in Nashik and Ahilyanagar, and banana plantations in Jalgaon district.
The damage assessment is being carried out," said the officer.
