A New York man was charged in connection with a child under 14 years old who met a man online and was sexually assaulted more than once, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz's office said Friday. Justin Flores, 20, of Poughkeepsie, appeared in Brockton District Court where he pleaded not guilty to one count each of rape of a child, enticement of a minor and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Flores was held on $75,000 cash bail, but a judge ordered that he have no contact with the child in this case, Cruz's office said in a statement. The Abington Police Department continues to actively investigate the case. Police arrested Flores after they looked into claims that Flores met with the child online, met in person and twice the child was sexually assaulted, Cruz's office said. After obtaining a warrant, Abington police arrested Flores at Logan International Airport on Thursday. Flores' next court appearance is scheduled for June 13. Longtime Taunton City Councilor Jeff Postell not running for re-election. What he said

Taunton City Councilor Jeff Postell is not running for re-election, he announced in a Facebook post — opening up a seat on the council for a newcomer. "After much reflection, it is with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that I write to inform you that I will not be seeking re-election for City Council in the upcoming election," Postell wrote. "After serving for eight years and being elected, and re-elected 3 times, I feel that the time has come for me to step aside and allow new leadership to carry us forward." Postell is the deputy chief for the Abington Police Department. Postell's announcement comes as 11 people have pulled papers indicating a desire to run for City Council so far this election cycle, including five people who aren't currently on the City Council. Here's what we know about Postell's decision not to seek election and about the upcoming election. Reflecting on his time on the Council, Postell wrote that he decided to seek election after moving to Taunton. "Shortly after moving to Taunton, I knew I wanted to be more than just a resident of this wonderful city. I wanted to contribute to its growth and success by utilizing my life and public safety experiences to make a difference," he wrote. "Throughout my time on the City Council, we have made meaningful progress, whether in advocating for better infrastructure, strengthening our local economy, supporting our schools, or ensuring public safety," Postell added. "But what I've found most rewarding is the trust and collaboration we've built between the Council and the residents of Taunton. That partnership is what has allowed us to achieve so much together." "After much thought, I know that it's time for me to make room for new leadership — fresh ideas, new energy, and new voices who will continue to move Taunton forward," he wrote. "Our city deserves that, and I am confident that we will continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead." 'Constant distraction' THS could ban cell phones. What we know Mayor Shaunna O'Connell wrote in a statement that she has known Postell personally for many years and is "blessed with his friendship." "He has always been a person of integrity and conviction," O'Connell wrote. "Even before Jeff was elected to the City Council, he was a fierce advocate for our city and public safety. His devotion to public safety helped make the public safety building a reality. For decades to come, Tauntonians will have Jeff Postell to thank for his advocation of our new complex helping our first responders." Councilor Chris Coute wrote in an email that "It's been an honor to serve alongside Jeff" and said that "his dedication to our community and tireless work for the people of the great City of Taunton will leave a lasting legacy. I wish him all the best in his next chapter." "Jeff's deep devotion to our city will be missed on the council," Councilor Larry Quintal said in a statement. "I enjoyed working with him on many projects to improve Taunton. He leaves behind a strong legacy of strengthening public safety for our community." Councilor David Pottier said that he had "never served on City Council with anyone with more passion for our community." "His decades of experience in leadership and law enforcement has been invaluable in helping advance our City in so many ways," Pottier added. "He will certainly be missed but know he will still be active in our great City." Councilor John McCaul said that he "enjoyed working with Jeff" and that "he does his homework on the issues and always has been there for his constituents." Former urgent care employee sentenced after sexually assaulting women in Abington

The Brief Ramon Garcia, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting patients while he was an employee at an urgent care in Abington. According to the District Attorney, Garcia has been sentenced to five to ten years in state prison. ABINGTON, Pa. - A former urgent care employee was charged with sexually assaulting multiple women back in 2024. As of Monday, he now knows his fate. What we know A former employee at a Montgomery County urgent care has been sentenced to up to a decade behind bars for assaulting women while posing as a nurse. The district attorney says Ramon Garcia of Philadelphia was sentenced to five to 10 years in state prison as part of a plea deal. He will also have to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law. The backstory Garcia was arrested in 2024 for performing inappropriate exams on women while working as a medical assistant at Carbon Health Urgent Care in Jenkintown. In March 2024, the Abington Police Department said Garcia was arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault (2nd degree felony), indecent assault, and (2) counts of invasion of privacy after police say two women accused him of highly inappropriate behavior during separate visits at the location in Abington Township. Police said 12 more victims came forward after Garcia's arrest, alleging that he sexually assaulted them during medical exams that Garcia was not allowed to perform. Investigators said Garcia, a former medical assistant, inappropriately touched patients, watched as they changed into medical gowns and sometimes would secretly photograph or record patients' bodies. In at least one instance, Garcia was also accused of placing a victim's hand on his leg/groin area while drawing their blood. On top of Garcia's initial charges back in March 2024, in April 2024, he received a new slate of charges including aggravated indecent assault, invasion of privacy, harassment, impersonating a nurse, wiretap violations, and possessing an instrument of crime. Large Fire Erupts at Industrial Complex in Pennsylvania, Closing Schools

A large fire broke out at a manufacturing site for aviation products in Pennsylvania on Monday night, engulfing the building in flames and closing nearby schools over fears of hazardous air pollution, according to officials. The blaze started just after 9:30 p.m. Eastern at a 560,000-square-foot complex housing SPS Technologies, a manufacturing company, in Jenkintown, Pa., about 10 miles north of Philadelphia. The company produces nuts, bolts and other items for industries including aviation. The cause of the fire was still unknown, the Abington Township Police Department said. Witnesses told the police that an explosion took place in the building. All employees inside were accounted for after an evacuation, the police said. Officials have urged people to avoid the area. Because of heavy smoke and the possibility of toxic materials burning at the site, officials closed all schools in the Abington and Jenkintown school districts, including private and parochial schools, on Tuesday. A shelter-in-place order was also in effect until 'this incident is under control,' the Abington Police Department announced. The police warned that any business within a one-mile radius of the site, at 301 Highland Ave in Jenkintown, should remain closed until further notice. The police and the Abington Township Fire Marshal's office are investigating the cause of the blaze. SPS Technologies — which was known as the Standard Pressed Steel Company until 1978 — has occupied the Jenkintown facility since 1920, according to a 2015 report by the Environmental Protection Agency. Since then, the site has been used for the production of metal fasteners and other parts for the aerospace and aviation industries, among others. In 2023, the E.P.A. fined SPS Technologies nearly $110,000 for violating rules regarding the storage and marking of hazardous waste at the Jenkintown site.
