I'm Not A 'Gossiper!': Trump Official Offers Wild Excuses For Avoiding Simple Questions

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce dodged CNN's Kasie Hunt questions on Monday after she was asked about where Secretary of State Marco Rubio stands on due process rights. Hunt — while referring to the hundreds of immigrants, including Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who were deported to a Salvadoran prison without due process — asked if Rubio believes noncitizens are 'entitled' to due process rights as laid out in the Constitution. 'Well, there's — there's always, of course, due process,' replied Bruce, a Fox News contributor before joining President Donald Trump's administration. 'These are individuals who have either violated our laws or their visas have been removed and they have to be removed from the country.' Hunt interjected to note that Trump 'seemed to question' whether he backs people being entitled to due process rights over the weekend. She then asked whether Rubio has spoken to Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele about Abrego Garcia, whose return to the United States has yet to occur as the Trump administration continues to defy a Supreme Court order to facilitate such a move. Bruce repeatedly declined to answer Hunt's questions about her boss, claiming she wasn't going to speak on the 'nature' of the secretary's daily work or which world leaders he speaks to. 'But you're the spokeswoman for the State Department! I mean, with all due respect, like —,' Hunt stressed. 'Yes, but that doesn't mean that — just, just a minute. That doesn't mean I'm the gossiper for the State Department,' Bruce replied. Bruce later claimed she was telling the host the 'nature' of what she can speak about which — she argued — 'does not include the day-to-day operations or choices the Secretary of State makes.' 'That's not going to happen,' she said. 'We clearly know this [case] is at the forefront for the State Department and the forefront for the Secretary of State. But you're not going to get the nature of the details of negotiations, diplomacy or the decisions the secretary makes during his day.' Critics Sink House Republican's Gulf Of Mexico Claim With Brutal Reality Check

Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) made a wild geographical blunder at a House rules committee meeting on Monday when she suggested that San Diego borders the Gulf of Mexico. Hageman went to bat for a bill — introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) — that looks to require federal laws, maps and other materials to rename the body of water to the Gulf of America. 'I think another reason why we should change this to the Gulf of Amexi — of America versus the Gulf of Mexico is for over 40 years, the country of Mexico has been dumping raw sewage into the area near San Diego, California,' Hageman declared. She went on to claim that both she and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin were recently in the area, adding that it's a 'horrific' situation and 'environmental catastrophe' that Mexico refuses to fix. 'That is another reason why we need to retake and claim ownership of this area and make sure people do know that it is the Gulf of America,' she added. Firstly, San Diego isn't remotely close to the Gulf and is well over 1,200 miles away from the body of water. And while Zeldin visited San Diego last month, he was in town to examine a sewage crisis in the Tijuana River, which flows from Mexico to Southern California before emptying in the Pacific Ocean. The bill — which the GOP-majority committee advanced to the House floor — looks to codify an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, who in January called on Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to take 'all appropriate actions' in renaming the body of water for governmental use. Critics on X, formerly Twitter, swiftly clowned Hageman over her gaffe. Trump Administration Asks Court To Dismiss Mifepristone Suit—Aligning With Biden Stance

The Food and Drug Administration under President Donald Trump asked a district court in Texas to dismiss a lawsuit from three conservative state attorneys general seeking to limit access to mifepristone, a drug used for abortions—a decision that continues former President Joe Biden's administration's stance on the case. Mifepristone tablets are seen in a Planned Parenthood clinic Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Ames, Iowa. ... More (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall, File) In a Monday filing, lawyers for the Trump administration argued the case should be dismissed not because of its merits, but because the court in Texas does not have jurisdiction. The lawsuit seeking to strengthen restrictions on mifepristone was revived by attorneys general in three states—Idaho, Kansas and Missouri—after it was initially filed by anti-abortion groups and rejected by the Supreme Court last year. The Supreme Court rejected the argument and protected access to mifepristone last year because it said the doctors who led the suit didn't have legal standing to challenge the FDA's regulations. Because the Supreme Court didn't address the merits of whether the drug should be restricted, the case was sent back to lower courts rather than dismissed, which allowed the states to revive the case. Mike Pence Says Trump Admin Doing 'Same Thing' Biden Did

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump's former Vice President Mike Pence is taking a swipe at his second administration for doing "the same thing" the Biden administration did regarding the abortion pill. Newsweek reached out to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Pence via his organization Advancing American Freedom on Friday. Why It Matters The abortion pill, Mifepristone, has been at the center of legal battles spanning administrations and even reaching the Supreme Court. Pence, a staunch conservative and Christian, has fervently opposed abortion. What To Know In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, the former vice president reacted to FDA Commissioner Marty Makary saying that there are no current plans to take action on the pill. Pence said, "The Trump Administration's @US_FDA has 'No Plans Take Action' on the Abortion Pill? The Biden Administration did the same thing. (See Thread." Pence then shared an article calling out the Biden administration in October for their role in approving the abortion pill and not disclosing internal communications that led to that decision. While speaking at the Semafor World Economy Summit on Thursday, Makary said the FDA has "no plans to take action" against the pill but added that "There is an ongoing set of data that is coming into the FDA on mifepristone." "So if the data suggests something or tells us that there's a real signal, we can't promise we're not going to act on that data." Republican Senator Josh Hawley rebuked the remarks of Makary, too, saying on X on Thursday, "This is exceptionally disappointing, to say the least. Not a good beginning at the FDA." The FDA labels Mifepristone safe to use on their website. "The FDA approved Mifeprex more than 20 years ago based on a thorough and comprehensive review of the scientific evidence presented and determined that it was safe and effective for its indicated use. As of 2016, it is approved for use for medical termination of pregnancy up to 70 days of gestation," the FDA says. President Joe Biden's administration expanded access to the pill to also include numerous pharmacies. (Photo by) More What People Are Saying Conservative Christian activist Tony Perkins on X on Friday reacting to Makary's remarks: "As long as the federal govt allows deadly abortion pills to be sent through the mail the pro-life laws of the States are almost meaningless, and women and their unborn children will continue to be harmed by this dangerous drug. The FDA needs to change the Biden policy." Perkins continued, "Mifepristone has never been subject to a thorough review—even during the approval process. I urge FDA Commissioner Dr. Makary to examine all the data and ban Mifepristone. The independent data indicates serious risk regarding the abortion pill." Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, a Massachusetts Democrat, on X in 2023: "Anti-abortion extremists are suing to ban abortion pills be clear: medication abortion is safe & effective, and it must be protected at all costs." Vivek Ramaswamy on X in October: "Democrats are frustrated by the fact that Trump is opposed to a federal abortion ban. Now, they're trying to manufacture a flip-flop about the Florida ballot measure when there isn't one. The truth is, they badly wish Trump were more of a hardliner on abortion than he actually is." What Happens Next It is immediately unclear if the FDA will ultimately review the pill with intent to change access.

Millions spent by Biden on COVID 'vaccine hesitancy' campaign slashed by Trump NIH: report

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is reportedly gearing up to cancel dozens of research grants about vaccine hesitancy by the end of the month, just four years after the Biden administration poured millions of dollars into combating COVID-19 vaccine skepticism. According to an internal email obtained by The Washington Post this week with the subject line "required terminations — 3/10/25," the agency had "received a new list… of awards that need to be terminated, today. It has been determined they do not align with NIH funding priorities related to vaccine hesitancy and/or uptake." More than 40 grants are on the chopping block, according to the Post's report, and when notifying researchers of the NIH's termination, they should be told "not to prioritize research activities that focuses gaining scientific knowledge on why individuals are hesitant to be vaccinated and/or explore ways to improve vaccine interest and commitment." Fda Chief Counsel Who Defended Abortion Pill Access Under Biden Resigns Two Days Into Job Fox News Digital has reached out to NIH and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for comment. The report comes four years after the previous Biden administration spent millions to combat "misinformation," particularly related to the COVID-19 vaccine, in 2021. A November report by Open the Books, a government watchdog group, found that at least $267 million was spent on research grants and contracts related to "misinformation" or "disinformation." Read On The Fox News App The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) allocated more than $17 million over three weeks in February 2021, CBS News reported at the time, to 15 organizations advocating for Black, Hispanic, Asian and Native American populations. Progressive groups UnidosUS and National Urban League were granted $3.2 million and $2 million, respectively. First State To Ban Fluoride In Drinking Water Will Heed Maha Movement's Call To Action In a now-archived CDC page titled "Risk for COVID-19 Infection, Hospitalization, and Death By Race/Ethnicity" in December 2022, the department reported that Black people are more likely to contract COVID-19 than White people. "Sure enough, the feds have spent at least $127 million in grants specifically targeted to study the spread of 'misinformation' — or to help people 'overcome' it, so to speak — by persuading them to go along with COVID-related public health recommendations and mandates," the Open the Books report said. It's unclear if the cancelation of grants came from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., but the Trump administration has been highly critical of the previous administration's spending. Tech billionaire Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has also been taking a scalpel to DEI-related funding amid President Donald Trump's effort to downsize the government workforce.
