Morocco, US Congressmen Pledge to Further Strengthen Strategic Ties

Rabat – Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita held a series of meetings in Washington with several influential US Congressmen as part of his high-level trip, furthering the bilateral ties between the two countries. The discussions emphasized the two countries' commitment to strengthening their multifaceted partnership. Bourita's visit included talks with several chairs of key congressional committees, including Senator Lindsey Graham, Representatives Brian Mast, Joe Wilson, and Mario Diaz-Balart, as well as members of the Abraham Accords Caucus from both houses of Congress. The discussions reflected bipartisan support in Congress for the US' reaffirmation of its recognition of Morocco's sove reig nty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara, in line with the position previously conveyed by President Donald Trump to King Mohammed VI in December 2020. Following his discussions with Bourita, Wilson said that the US supports Morocco in fostering peace, noting that the talks focused on the two countries' long-standing partnership and their shared commitment to peace in the region, particularly concerning the stability of the S ahara in the face of threats from the Polisario terrorists. In January, Wilson pointed out that the Polisario's actions are aimed at undermining Morocco's territorial integrity and are a threat to the country. 'War criminal Putin, Iran, and Cuba are actively destabilizing West Africa by supporting the Polisario Front, a threat to the Kingdom of Morocco,' he said, recalling Morocco's strategic importance as a long-standing ally to the US. He also recalled the recent diplomatic provocation when Algeria hosted terrorist-designated Kurdish separatists to meet with Polisario militia in Tindouf. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart also commented on the US's unchanged Sahara position, noting that by reaffirming its recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, the US is stressing the consistency of its stance. He also commended Morocco's role in promoting peace and prosperity under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, adding that the North African country has become an essential ally and partner of the US in promoting peace in the Middle East. Bourita's meetings in Washington reflected the commitment of both countries to further enrich and expand their multidimensional strategic alliance, which encompasses political cooperation, trade and investment, digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and security. In a readout issued by the State Department following Bourita's talks with US diplomacy chief Marco Rubio, both officials 'affirmed the strong U.S.-Morocco partnership in advancing peace and security, under President Trump's and HM King Mohammed VI's leadership.' US Abraham Accords Caucus wants to support education in Morocco

The co-chairs of the Abraham Accords Caucus have introduced a resolution aimed at promoting peace and tolerance through education in several Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. The resolution calls for reforms in school curricula to eliminate antisemitic content and hate speech while fostering inclusion and respect. « We have the responsibility to educate future generations on the values of peace and coexistence », stated Representative Brad Schneider. The United States is encouraged to collaborate with international organizations, including the UN, to achieve these objectives. Representative Ann Wagner stressed the importance of rejecting intolerance to «deprive the Iranian regime of the hatred that fuels its violent agendas». The Caucus seeks to strengthen the Abraham Accords, signed in 2020, by encouraging partnerships between signatory countries and expanding the agreement to nations without diplomatic relations with Israel. It has supported key legislation, including the Israel Relations Normalization Act, the DEFEND Act, and the MARITIME Act, as well as provisions of the NDAA on diplomatic and military cooperation. In the Senate, the caucus is co-chaired by James Lankford (R-OK), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Cory Booker (D-NJ). The Caucus receives support from organizations such as the Atlantic Council, the Abraham Accords Peace Institute, AIPAC, the Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee, Hadassah, the U.S.-Israel Education Association, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Israel Policy Forum, CUFI Action, the Jewish Federations of North America, and B'nai B'rith International.
