UAE manufacturers urged to take advantage of local port operators' global presence
Manufacturers in the UAE have been asked to take advantage of local port operators' global presence. Speaking during a panel discussion at the Make it in the Emirates in Abu Dhabi on Monday, Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE's minister of state for foreign trade, encouraged local exporters to take advantage of the strong presence of DP World and Abu Dhabi Ports within and outside the UAE. 'They are important and play a key role in logistics sectors. They are very important in the world, managing more than two-thirds of global ports,' he added. The Dubai-based global ports operator DP World has presence across dozens of countries, managing ports, economic zones and logistics facilities in America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and other regions. Abu Dhabi Ports owns and operates 10 ports and terminals in the UAE. Each facility is strategically located, harnessing sea, air, road and rail connectivity to provide gateways to global markets. This wider presence across various countries of local port operators makes it even easier for local manufacturers and exporters to export their goods globally. The fourth edition of the Make it in the Emirates exhibition and conferences is taking place from May 19 to 22 at Adnec Centre in Abu Dhabi, showcasing various products manufactured locally from defence to AI to space. He pointed out that the Middle East market is just around 500 million, therefore, the bigger 2.5 billion market 'helps a lot in providing alternatives for UAE manufacturers in case of supply chain issues". Within a four-hour radius, exporters in the UAE can reach over 2 billion people. Located at a crossroad between east and west, the UAE greatly benefits from its central location. In addition, exporters can cash in on the strong connectivity that UAE carriers Emirates, Etihad and flydubai provide. The minister noted that studies show that trade agreements increase countries' GDP by 15 per cent. 'Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) guarantee investors bigger markets,' he said, adding that more CEPAs 'will be signed in the coming few weeks". The minister stressed that each emirate complements the other when it comes to economic diversification of the economy. 'We have the UAE Industrial Council and there are representatives of all stakeholders. Plus, coordination of policies is happening and we are working to overcome challenges that manufacturers face. We are keen to attract more investment. We want natural resources that are affordable and sustainable because we want prices to be stable as volatility will harm the credibility of the market. We need competency and skills in the manufacturing sector. Our products are exported everywhere in the world.' The minister stated that they're coordinating with local and federal stakeholders in attracting talent from other countries as well as through the Nafis programme dedicated to UAE citizens. Speaking during the panel discussion, Ahmed Al Zaabi, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, revealed that the number of factories has tripled in the manufacturing sector in the Capital over the last few years. 'We have many initiatives through which we can help to open a factory, provide funding and import raw materials." In the last two years, Al Zaabi noted that the industrial sector's contribution to Abu Dhabi GDP has grown by over 22 per cent from Dh91 billion to Dh111.6 billion.

Egypt: Breaking Down the SCZone-AD Ports Deal
The SCZone: Egypt's Gateway to Investment and Growth Recently, the Egyptian Cabinet announced a landmark agreement between the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and Abu Dhabi Ports (AD Ports) to develop and manage the KEZAD logistics and industrial zone within East Port Said. However, the announcement sparked confusion among some of the Egyptian public, who mistakenly believed that AD Ports would be managing the Suez Canal itself. The agreement grants AD Ports a renewable 50-year usufruct to develop an integrated economic and logistics model within the proposed industrial zone in East Port Said on an area of 20 square kilometers (km 2). AD Ports will develop, construct, finance, operate, and manage the industrial and logistics zone of KEZAD in multiple phases. The focus in the near term will be on completing the first phase, which will cover an area of 2.8 km 2. A total investment of $120 million will be allocated for relevant market and technical studies, as well as for the development of the first phase over the next three years. Construction of the first phase is scheduled to begin by the end of 2025. The Egyptian state has prioritized the SCZone as a key driver of economic development, working to enhance its appeal to local and foreign investors by improving infrastructure, digital services, and creating a competitive, eco-friendly business environment. Established by presidential decree issued in August 2015, the SCZone, spans 455 million m 2, including six seaports and four industrial zones. As of December 2024, the zone hosts 14 industrial developers and provides 100,000 job opportunities. Revenues from the SCZone have nearly tripled, compared to fiscal year (FY) 2016/2017, reaching EGP 8.2 billion in FY2023/2024, 72% of which were dollar-denominated. Between 2022 and January 2025, the total investments in approved industrial, service, logistics projects amounted to approximately $8.081 billion across 255 projects. Moreover, the total number of companies established within the SCZone has reached 366. During the past three years, 130 factories have been established in the SCZone. Moreover, 120 factories are under construction in 2025. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (

Suez Canal Zone deal with UAE sparks public debate, PM clarifies agreement
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has addressed widespread discussion surrounding the agreement signed between the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and Abu Dhabi Ports Group for the 'KIZAD East Port Said' project. The Prime Minister clarified that the project is for an integrated industrial and logistics zone operating under the industrial developer system, one of 14 such developers in the economic zone. Madbouly emphasized the distinct roles of the Suez Canal Authority and the SCZone, stating they operate independently to contribute to Egypt's comprehensive development. The agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports has triggered public discussion, with some expressing concerns about potential impacts on Egyptian control over the Suez Canal area, a key economic asset. This debate was fueled by an initial lack of transparency regarding the agreement's details, prompting the Prime Minister's intervention to provide clarity. The agreement between the SCZone and Abu Dhabi Ports comes as part of Egypt's strategy to attract foreign investment and develop industrial and logistics zones, aiming to establish a sophisticated economic center that supports inter-regional trade and strengthens Egypt's global logistics hub status. However, the agreement has raised concerns about national sovereignty, particularly due to confusion between the jurisdictions of the Suez Canal Authority and the economic zone, leading to the government's clarification. Madbouly also recently reviewed the outcomes of the governmental offerings committee, which has finalized 21 deals worth $6 billion. He further highlighted a recent meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, noting Egypt's status as the bank's primary partner with a €13.8 billion investment portfolio. These economic partnerships aim to enhance Egypt's position as a regional industrial and logistics hub, he reassured, amidst questions about the impact of the ongoing debate on foreign investment confidence. Established in 2015, the SCZone aims to develop the areas surrounding the canal and attract investments in industry, logistics, and energy, operating separately from the Suez Canal Authority, which manages the waterway itself.

AD Ports Deal in East Port Said Relies on Industrial Developer System without Ownership, Says PM
Taarek Refaat Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that the signing of the East Port Said Industrial and Logistics Zone contract with Abu Dhabi Ports was concluded under the industrial developer system, noting that there are 14 other industrial developers operating under the same system, including China's TEDA. The Prime Minister stated that there was a deliberate attempt to confuse the waterway with the economic zone, which is incorrect. The Prime Minister made this clear during his regular press conference on Wednesday following the cabinet meeting at its headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. Madbouly stated that the 15% government revenue share specified in the Abu Dhabi Ports Company contract for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) is a minimum, not a fixed percentage. He explained that the contract specifies a minimum percentage of revenue equivalent to the rental value of the land. The Prime Minister confirmed that the AD Ports contract is based on the industrial developer system, and the contract is a usufruct contract, without ownership, and has no connection to the Suez Canal waterway. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
