Watch: With HTS in power in Damascus, what's next for Syria's Kurdish minority?
Syria has witnessed dramatic developments in recent months. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an Islamis organisation that grew out of al-Qaeda's Syria branch, captured power in Damascus in December. HTS leader Abu Mohammad al Golani, now known as Ahmed al-Sharaa, has got himself appointed as the acting president of Syria. Where do these developments leave Syria's Kurdish minority? The Kurds in Syria's north and east enjoy relative autonomy. Across the border, in Turkey, Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), recently announced, from jail, a ceasefire and called on disarming the PKK as part of a peace agreement.
In this episode of Realpolitik, Stanly Johny, The Hindu's international affairs Editor, talks with Salih Muslim Muhammad, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, the main party of the Democratic Administration of North and East Syria, to understand the developments in Syria and Türkiye.
