National Woman Committee visits summer courses in Sana'a

Sana'a - Saba: Dr. Ghada Abu Talib, Chairwoman of the National Women's Committee, inspected the summer courses in Sanhan District, Sana'a Governorate. During her visit to the Fatima, Ruqayya, and Al-Nafs Al-Zakiya schools in the district, the Committee Chairwoman listened to an explanation from the summer course organizers about the activities being implemented and the level of turnout. Dr. Abu Talib emphasized the importance of the summer courses in raising awareness and educating young people and protecting them from the soft war. She praised the beneficial activities offered by the summer courses for young people, families, and society, strengthening their connection to the Holy Quran, broadening students' horizons, and developing their talents. Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabian taekwondo champion Dunia Abu Talib has been awarded the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award for Asia for 2024, marking a historic first for Saudi sports. Abu Talib, the first Saudi woman to qualify for the Olympic Games and win an Asian gold medal, received the honor in recognition of her role in promoting gender equality in sports and inspiring female athletes on both local and international levels. Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, praised the achievement, saying: "I congratulate Dunia Abu Talib on this well-deserved recognition, which reflects the tremendous progress women's sports in the Kingdom have achieved, thanks to the unwavering support of our leadership." He added that this award reaffirms the pivotal role Saudi women now play in global sports and serves as motivation for the next generation of female athletes to achieve even greater success. Abu Talib expressed her pride in receiving the award, emphasizing that it reflects the extensive efforts made to empower women in sports and support them in their pursuit of excellence. The Saudi athlete currently holds the No. 1 ranking in the under-53kg category in the World Taekwondo Federation's global standings for March 2025.

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Dunia Abu Talib, the Saudi Olympic taekwondo champion, has once again etched her name in history by claiming the number one spot in the global taekwondo rankings for the under-53kg category. This remarkable achievement makes her the first Saudi female athlete to reach the top of the world rankings in her division. Saudi Ambassador to the U.S., Princess Reema bint Bandar, celebrated Abu Talib's milestone with a post on X, stating: 'Breaking barriers and making history... Dunia Abu Talib is now the world's number one taekwondo athlete in her weight category. She is an incredible inspiration for all Saudi girls pursuing their dreams. The future is ours.' Abu Talib boasts an impressive record of achievements in both local and international competitions. She became the first Saudi female taekwondo athlete to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she faced world number one and Olympic gold medalist Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand. She also secured a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games and claimed gold in all three editions of the Saudi Games. In addition to Abu Talib's historic achievement, Saudi taekwondo athlete Riad Hamdi ranked second globally in the under-54kg category, while Taiba Al-Sharif secured the seventh spot in the under-46kg division, highlighting the Kingdom's growing presence in the sport.
