Generate Key Takeaways Timothée Chalamet underlined the impact of Luca Guadagnino's 'Call Me by Your Name' on his career as he received Italy's David Award for Cinematic Excellence during the event's 70th edition on Wednesday evening at Rome's Cinecittá studios. 'Luca is probably the most important person in my career,' said Chalamet, who attended Italy's top film award show with girlfriend Kylie Jenner — marking the first time they've walked a red carpet together despite being linked for two years — and his father Marc Chalamet. When Chalamet earned his first best actor nomination in 2017 for Guadagnino's 'Call Me' at 22, he was the third-youngest nominee ever in that category. More from Variety 'I started out as a 20-year-old kid from New York who was having a hard time breaking out in the American film industry,' Chalamet said. 'My career happened overnight thanks to Luca Guadagnino and the chance he took on me playing in an Italian movie.' 'I have no familial bloodline that runs through Italy. I'm not related to anyone here, but I feel a deep connection to the cinema community here,' he added. 'If I hadn't pursued my dream of acting, I probably would have broken Francesco Totti's scoring record,' Chalamet continued, referring to the former captain of AS Roma soccer club, of which he is an ardent fan. 'Timothée Chalamet's European origins and American background make him one of the most unpredictable and talented protagonists of international cinema today, capable of being both an auteur performer and a star generating trends and styles,' said Piera Detassis, president and artistic director of the Academy of Italian Cinema. Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet go red-carpet official in Italy: See the photos Show Caption Hide Caption Golden Globes: Does Timothee Chalamet have a favorite Bob Dylan song? As he walked the Golden Globes red carpet, Timothée Chalamet was asked by USA TODAY's Ralphie Aversa if he has a favorite Bob Dylan song. After two years of fueling anticipation, Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner have finally made their romance red-carpet official. The two arrived hand-in-hand at the red carpet Rome's David di Donatello Awards, where Chalamet, 29, received the David Speciale – an accolade that acknowledges a "great actor of quality and innovative films" and a "global protagonist." The Academy of Italian Cinema's president specifically noted the New York-born actor's work with acclaimed Italian director Luca Guadagnino on 2017's "Call Me by Your Name." He and Jenner, 27 cozied up on the red carpet, with the "Kardashians" star leaning against Chalamet as he kept his arm wrapped around her waist. This is far from the couple's first public outing, but the two have been more covert in their support for each other in the past. Amid Chalamet's major award season showing this year, which saw the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" competing for various awards, Jenner avoided red carpets, opting to join her beau inside events, including the Oscars and the Golden Globes. They were also loved up at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, in March, and sat courtside together to witness the Los Angeles Lakers lose in the NBA playoffs to the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 30. Social media posts also indicated the two trekked out to the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival together. They've also attended several events solo.
