On The Punt: Best bets for Sandown on Saturday May 24, 2025

News Corp form analyst Chris Vernuccio takes a look at the Sandown meeting on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET ACCREDITED (R8 No.10): Accredited resumed with a half-length fifth in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes on a Soft 7 track. The NSW visitor drops back to a Benchmark 100 here, and he won his only race at 1400m by four lengths. A dry track gives him the advantage over race favourite Elouyou, who could be scratched if there isn't a downgrade. NEXT BEST SUNSHINEINMYPOCKET (R9 No.4): Sunshineinmypocket is flying this campaign with two wins and a second from four starts. The only time he was out of the placings was on a Soft 7 surface. He has won five from seven on good-rated tracks. He won at Caulfield last start over the 1400m from back in the field and should be finishing strongly again. OTAGO (R7 No.15): Otago was excellent in his first run back after nearly 14 months, running on from last to finish behind smart sprinter King Zephyr at Flemington. A month between runs could eliminate any second-up flatness. He showed plenty of promise in his last prep, finishing fourth in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes and wasn't disgraced in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. Originally published as
