Action committee warns intense protest over bad condition of NH stretch

Mangaluru: The Action Committee Against Toll Gate, Surathkal, has warned of intense protests if the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) does not fill potholes on the Surathkal–Nanthoor highway stretch. "Every monsoon, potholes appear in rows on the Surathkal-Nanthoor National Highway stretch, posing a threat to two-wheeler riders. This time, dangerous potholes appeared on the highway with the first rain. The first casualty has already occurred, and it is uncertain how many more precious lives will be lost here. No one seems to care about this," stated Muneer Katipalla, coordinator of the action committee. A resident of Janatha Colony in Surathkal, who was travelling on his two-wheeler near Panambur, fell into a pothole and was run over by a tanker coming from behind and died last night, he said. "We have been raising our voices from the action committee to repair this highway fully before the monsoon and prevent such tragic deaths. After putting forward this demand and urging the people's representatives, we held a peaceful protest in Kuloor, for which an FIR was filed against us. Despite this, we continued our fight within our limits. Now, a prelude to the series of deaths caused by highway potholes this monsoon has been written," said Muneer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Tragically, instead of inspecting the dire condition of the national highway and taking steps to fill the potholes, people's representatives are busy with vote bank politics. People's representatives should wake up and take immediate steps to fill the numerous potholes on the highway. Otherwise, a procession of deaths on the highway will occur this monsoon, he said. "Do not compel us to engage in intense protests. Also, ensure that the highway authority provides compensation to the bereaved family of the deceased," Muneer urged.
