Poll: Half of UK say Israel committing genocide in Gaza, majority support Netanyahu arrest
More than half of Britons oppose Israel's war on Gaza, with the vast majority of those saying Israel's conduct amounts to genocide, a new poll has showed. The survey, commissioned by the NGO Action For Humanity in collaboration with the International Centre for Justice for Palestinians, was conducted by YouGov. The survey concluded that 55 percent of the public oppose Israel's actions in Gaza, with only 15 percent in support. Of those 55 percent, an overwhelming 82 percent believe it amounts to the crime of genocide. 'This translates to 45 percent of adults in the UK who view Israel's actions as genocidal,' the two NGOs said. According to the NGOs, the findings show 'growing public pressure for legal accountability and a decisive government response'. The survey is based on a sample size of 2,010 adults, and the polling fieldwork was conducted online between 4-5 June 2025. 'The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+),' the groups said in a press statement. Additionally, the YouGov poll reveals strong public backing in the UK for the immediate recognition of a Palestinian state, with support particularly pronounced among Labour voters. Overall, 30 percent of Britons support recognising Palestine as an independent state right away, compared to just 10 percent who oppose the initiative. An additional 19 percent believe recognition should come eventually, when the time is right. Among those who voted Labour in the 2024 general election, support is even stronger: 43 percent favour immediate recognition, 21 percent back recognition at a later stage, and only two percent oppose it outright. Suppport for Gaza visa scheme Labour voters also show strong humanitarian concern for civilians affected by the war in Gaza, according to the poll. The poll found that 56 percent of 2024 Labour voters support a humanitarian visa scheme for Gaza Palestinians, similar to the 'Homes for Ukraine' programme launched during Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "Despite the misinformation to whitewash war crimes being committed in Gaza, the British public are not being fooled,' said Othman Moqbel, CEO of Action For Humanity. 'It is clear that a majority of the public here are disgusted with Israel's conduct, and a growing number agree that this is clearly a genocide. 'This polling shows that the government's failure to recognise the scale of the crimes being inflicted upon Gaza is not just putting them on the wrong side of history, it's putting them on the wrong side of the present day.' And Jonathan Purcell, senior public affairs officer for the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians, said: "UK policymaking should be based on complying with international law obligations regardless, but this poll just goes to show the level of popular support for such policies too. "There is absolutely no appetite to drag our national reputation through the mud by continuing to stand with a rogue, pariah state."

‘Growing number' of Britons view Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide: Poll
London, United Kingdom – Most Britons who oppose Israel's war on Gaza believe the onslaught, which has to date killed more than 55,000 people, amounts to genocide, according to a new poll. The survey, carried out by YouGov and commissioned by the Action for Humanity charity and the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) advocacy group, found that 55 percent of Britons are against Israel's aggression. A significant number of those opponents – 82 percent – said Israel's actions amount to genocide. 'This translates to 45 percent of adults in the UK who view Israel's actions as genocidal,' said Action for Humanity and ICJP. Details of the poll, which 2,010 people responded to in early June, were released on Wednesday. Sixty-five percent said the UK should enforce the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to visit Britain. 'It is clear that a majority of the public here are disgusted with Israel's conduct, and a growing number agree that this is clearly a genocide,' said Othman Moqbel, head of Action for Humanity. He added that all but a few believe the UK should do 'everything in its power to stop Israel and seek justice against those responsible'. 'The government's failure to recognise the scale of the crimes being inflicted upon Gaza is not just putting them on the wrong side of history, it's putting them on the wrong side of the present day.' Tens of thousands of Britons have taken to the streets over the past 20 months to protest against Israel's war on Gaza. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government has in recent weeks adopted harsher tones on Israel and sanctioned top officials. In 2024, the UK suspended 30 arms export licences to Israel for use in Gaza amid concerns Israel was violating international humanitarian laws. But critics have lamented the pace and power of the UK's response, calling for tougher sanctions and measures that would prevent Israel from receiving F-35 components made in Britain. The survey also highlighted the positions of Britons who voted for the Labour Party in the 2024 general election. Of the 68 percent of Labour voters who are against Israel's actions in Gaza, 87 percent believe they amount to genocide. Seventy-eight percent of Labour voters said the UK should enforce the ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu. The UK has suggested it would comply with the ICC warrant. 'The UK government is totally out of touch with the British public they are supposed to represent, and the Labour Party are even more out of touch with their own voters,' said Jonathan Purcell of the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians. 'UK policymaking should be based on complying with international law obligations, regardless, but this poll just goes to show the level of popular support for such policies too. There is absolutely no appetite to drag our national reputation through the mud by continuing to stand with a rogue, pariah state.'

Three killed in strike near displacement camp in Gaza, charity says
GAZA: A strike near a displacement camp in Deir Al-Balah, central Gaza, has killed three people, according to the humanitarian organization Action For Humanity. In a statement released on Saturday, the charity said the bombing occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time, striking just 100 meters from the main entrance of Hope Camp 4, a site it operates for displaced civilians. The organization said the victims included a displaced resident, a relative of a woman living in the camp, and a member of the family that made the land available for use as a displacement site. 'This was not just an attack on civilians, it was an attack on humanitarian infrastructure,' Action For Humanity said. 'Striking areas where displaced families are seeking safety is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.' No further casualties or damage were reported among the camp's other residents, but the group warned of the 'deep and lasting' psychological toll on the community. Action For Humanity said it continues to provide support to those affected and called for the protection of humanitarian sites and safe, unhindered access for aid delivery. 'Our operations in Gaza remain active,' the statement added. 'We urgently call for the protection of all humanitarian sites and for immediate, unhindered access to deliver life-saving aid to those in desperate need.'
