Japanese woman who kissed BTS' Jin without consent referred to prosecutors

A Japanese woman accused of unexpectedly kissing K-pop group BTS' member Jin at a fan-hugging event in June 2024 was transferred to prosecution, according to police. The Songpa Police Station said Thursday that it transferred the case to the prosecution on charges of sexual harassment in a public space. The transfer comes a little after two months since the police booked the suspect on Feb. 27. The Japanese woman in her 50s is accused of kissing the K-pop star during a 'free hug event' attended by 1,000 fans on June 13, 2024, a day after Jin's discharge from the military. A video of the woman kissing Jin, as well as his flustered reaction, circulated the internet after the woman wrote on her blog, 'My lips touched his neck. His skin was extremely soft.' When the incident stirred controversy online, an internet user filed a complaint against the woman, prompting police investigations. Though Songpa Police Station filed a summons against the woman to appear for questioning after booking her in late February with the help of Japanese Interpol, the woman was uncooperative as she refused to appear. The police decided to halt investigations in March, citing that it would take time for a foreign woman residing out of the country to appear for questioning. However, the fan reportedly recently entered South Korea and voluntarily appeared before the police. The police added that they also found evidence of another woman kissing Jin during investigations, but were unable to identify her. Meanwhile, under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, a person convicted of sexual harassment in a crowded public space may face imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won ($21,494).

Kim Soo Hyun scores rare win amid backlash as complaint targets misconduct by Kim Sae Ron's lawyer

In a significant development that could reshape the ongoing public battle involving top actor Kim Soo Hyun, a formal complaint has been filed against Attorney Bu Ji Seok, the legal representative of the late Kim Sae Ron's family, over alleged serious misconduct. The complaint, submitted on April 29 by a whistleblower identified only as 'A,' accuses Bu of playing a key role in the unlawful handling and distribution of sensitive material tied to Kim Soo Hyun's name. Kim Sae Ron's attorney accused of unethical legal misconduct According to a Kbizoom report, Attorney Bu offered improper legal counsel that contributed to the release or at least the facilitation of private content without consent. The complaint accuses Bu of leveraging his status as a lawyer to publicly validate speculative or misleading claims, which ultimately fueled a damaging narrative against Kim Soo Hyun. One of the most serious charges raised is Bu's alleged promotion of unfounded accusations, including the claim that Kim Soo Hyun had 'groomed' Kim Sae Ron, an assertion aired during a press conference and widely circulated in online media. The complaint insists these claims were made without substantial evidence and have had a direct impact on Kim's public image, financial stability, and professional momentum. Kim Soo Hyun takes action against Kim Sae Ron's family The My Love from the Star actor's agency has already taken legal action in response to the accusations. A criminal complaint was filed earlier this month against Kim Sae Ron's family, controversial YouTuber Garo Sero, and a woman claiming to be Kim Sae Ron's aunt. The charges in the 12 billion lawsuit include violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, particularly regarding the illegal distribution of imagery. Kim Soo Hyun faces new lawsuits Almost two months after the initial allegations surfaced in March, the controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun remains far from over. Two advertising agencies have reportedly filed lawsuits against Kim and his agency, seeking reimbursement of modelling fees and damages exceeding 3 billion KRW. K-media reports revealed that a third company is also preparing to sue for breach of trust and recovery of fees, which could further strain the actor's already unstable financial situation. Meanwhile, his highly anticipated Disney+ drama Knock Off has been put on indefinite hold amid the ongoing controversy. The actor has no other confirmed future projects in the pipeline.
