A man laughingly admitting to smoking marijuana in his car to a Forsyth County deputy ended with him facing drug trafficking charges. Deputies say they watched as James Anderson from Blairsville crossed the double yellow lines several times and used a blue light as his tag light, so they pulled him over. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] When Anderson pulled over, he blocked the entrance to a subdivision. The deputy had to tell him several times to move the car and not block the subdivision. As the deputy walked up to the car, he could smell marijuana. When he asked Anderson about it, he admitted to having smoked in the car earlier in the day. The deputy searched the car and found 78.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine, $2,400 in cash and more. Former Cobb deputy faked multiple sclerosis to get donations, prosecutors say

A former Cobb County sheriff's deputy has now been indicted on fraud charges after prosecutors say he faked being sick. Cobb County District Attorney Sonya Allen's office confirmed on Friday that Mark Ryan Hampton, 38, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of violation of oath by a public officer and violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The indictment says that in Nov. 2021, the sheriff's office received several complaints about a social media account associated with Hampton. It goes on to allege that Hampton defrauded people and organizations by claiming he had multiple sclerosis and associated complications to get money and gifts. It's unclear how much money he received. Gwinnett County police say the streets are safer after they arrested a dangerous driver who crashed into the side of a Gwinnett County police car. It all happened earlier this month, in a shopping center off Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Investigators say police had been searching for Kevin Pineda-Pineda, 30, after a license plate reader notified them that his black Dodge Charger was in the area. Sewer rehabilitation, replacement project to begin March 31 in DeKalb County, expect traffic delays

DeKalb County officials say work to rehabilitate and replace more than 3,000 feet of sewer lines and manhole structures will start March 31, with traffic impacts and construction-related noise expected. According to the county, crews will work to replace or rehabilitate roughly 3,091 feet of gravity sewer main between Eastwyck Drive and Saratoga Drive, with the project to last about a year. Should weather not impact construction efforts, the project is expected to be completed in March 2026. 17-year-old arrested after shootout leaves teen dead in DeKalb County

DeKalb County police are piecing together evidence that led to a deadly shooting. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] It happened Saturday around 5 p.m. on Watkins Glen Road. Police said two people were shot and taken to a nearby hospital separately. One of them was a 19-year-old man who later died of his injuries. The other is a 15-year-old boy, who is currently being treated for his condition. Neither victims' identities were released. Police said they left the gas station but came back together in a neighborhood. Investigators said another boy, Rodriquez Kemp,17, drove up and hit the 15-year-old with his vehicle. DeKalb investigators said the 15-year-old and 19-year-old got into a shootout. After speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence, police arrested and charged Kemp with felony murder and aggravated assault. He remains behind bars at the DeKalb County Jail.
