Adam ‘Pacman' Jones' agent claims former NFL star's latest arrest is example of ‘overzealous policing'
The agent of former NFL cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones called into question the actions of Covington police for what he called 'another example of overzealous policing' in the arrest of his client over the weekend. Jones was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct and assault of a police officer. But Peter Schaffer, Jones' agent, claimed that the ex-NFL player had done 'nothing wrong' during his interaction with police and that his only transgression was to 'exercise his right to ask why he was being detained — a fundamental question that every citizen should be allowed to ask without fear of retaliation.' Advertisement A police news release stated that officers had been called to a bar around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning over a report of a 'disturbance involving a customer and an employee,' and when they arrived, they had been notified of a car attempting to leave the area. Officers stopped the car being driven by Jones and they stated that he had been consuming alcohol and that the charges 'related to his level of intoxication and his behavior.' Jones has had several encounters with law enforcement over the years, which have included an altercation at a hotel in Arlington, Texas, after the Jake Paul fight against Mike Tyson and an arrest at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2023. Jones hasn't played in the NFL since 2018 and spent the majority of his career with the Bengals, along with stints with the Titans and Cowboys.

Jail records show that Jones was booked into Kenton County Jail on June 7 and is facing charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer. The former Bengals player was arrested by Covington police and booked at 1:51 a.m. ET. Records show that Jones was later released after posting bond at 11:32 a.m. ET. Covington police officers were called to the Second Story Bar on West Sixth Street at approximately 12:44 a.m. on June 7 following a report of a "disturbance involving a customer and an employee," police said in a news release. When police arrived, they were alerted to a car trying to leave the area, per the release. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the 41-year-old Jones was identified as a passenger. Police arrested Jones "on charges related to his level of intoxication and his behavior," according to the release. Officials said he'd been consuming alcohol. Jones was transported to the Kenton County Detention Center and assaulted the arresting officer while being lodged, police say. Officials said it caused a minor injury. "The Covington Police Department takes incidents of this nature very seriously. We are committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all who live in or visit Covington," the department said. "Adam Jones is being held to the same standard of conduct as any other individual in our community." Jones has a history of legal issues. He was arrested in November for an altercation at a Dallas hotel following the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. A year earlier, Jones pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge in Boone County District Court. The former Bengals standout was arrested early Sept. 11 after Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport police responded to a call about an unruly passenger on a United Airlines flight, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, but that sentence was conditionally discharged for two years, provided Jones avoided new criminal charges. In 2023, Jones was arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport after an argument with airline employees over USB ports near his seat on the flight, WLWT5 reported at the time. Police in Kentucky arrested former NFL player Adam 'Pacman' Jones. Action News Jax's Ohio station, WHIO-TV, reports Jones was booked into the Kenton County Jail early Saturday morning. Jones, who is from Atlanta, faces charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct in the second degree and assault on a police officer in the third degree, according to the jail records. Police have not said what led to the charges. Advertisement This is at least the third arrest within the past two years for Jones, who has a history of legal issues. WHIO-TV reported Jones was arrested at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG) in 2023 for alcohol intoxication, terroristic threatening, and disorderly conduct. He later pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct in December 2023. Arlington, Texas police arrested Jones back in November after officers said he got into a fight near AT&T Stadium after the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul boxing match, the Athletic reported. Jones played 13 years in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos.
