Bryce Huff Trade Shows Why NFL is Cracking Down on Eagles

Bryce Huff Trade Shows Why NFL is Cracking Down on Eagles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. What the Philadelphia Eagles were able to accomplish on Friday afternoon is the exact reason why the league is looking to see if there is any way to even out the current salary cap system for the next CBA. Advertisement The league is looking to balance out the edge certain teams have when they cleverly manipulate the salary cap by increasing signing bonuses and managing dead cap concerns. Cash-rich owners are able to entice players around the league with higher immediate bonuses, and shrug off losses by eating dead cap charges to players no longer on their roster. That is precisely what the Eagles have done for years. It's also what the did with Bryce Huff. Philadelphia shipped the failed edge rusher to San Francisco for a late-round pick Friday afternoon according to a report from Adam Schefter. Huff, a year removed from signing a three-year contract worth $51 million, joins a 49ers team that is a better fit for his intended scheme. Now, a trade like this should cripple a team. They paid. They whiffed. Advertisement But the fact that the team's ownership is willing to ignore the dead cap charges, and the front office is able to renegotiate deals to work for both sides, allows the Eagles to shrug off a situation like this. Philadelphia has unique resources to shrug off mistakes. And the league wants to crack down on these types of things going forward. Aaron Rodgers Update Adds More Uncertainty for Steelers

Aaron Rodgers Update Adds More Uncertainty for Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aaron Rodgers has been coy about his future plans in the NFL -- and even the Pittsburgh Steelers may not know his next move. Advertisement Many NFL insiders have predicted that Rodgers will ultimately sign with the Steelers, who appear to be his last remaining option after other potential suitors line up quarterbacks for the coming season. But the former league MVP has not given any public indication on what he plans to do next. NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Rodgers has also avoided any private indication to the Steelers about his plans. In an appearance on the "Rich Eisen Show," Pelissero reported that the Steelers have not heard anything from Rodgers. Pelissero reported that Rodgers "has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming," despite having a meeting with the team's brass earlier this offseason. Rodgers still has time to make a decision, though ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested there could be a looming deadline. Advertisement "I think the Steelers' mandatory minicamp is next month," Schefter said. "Forget the exact date, roughly June 10. I would think that we would get a decision from Aaron Rodgers shortly before then about whether or not he should play. To me, you can't miss that mandatory minicamp where you start gearing up. I guess you can, but that's not ideal." The Steelers may be left with little options if Rodgers does not decide to sign. The team brought back veteran Mason Rudolph, who is currently atop the depth chart. 49ers trading for $51 million Super Bowl champion to bolster pass rush

49ers trading for $51 million Super Bowl champion to bolster pass rush It took awhile, but the San Francisco 49ers offseason has gotten busy. ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday reported the 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles are working on a trade that would send defensive end Bryce Huff to San Francisco in exchange for a mid-round pick. That trade can't be executed officially until after June 1. Huff was an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020. That year he posted 2.0 sacks in 14 games. He had the same number of sacks the following year in nine games under head coach Robert Saleh, who is now the 49ers defensive coordinator. Huff broke out in 2023, his third year under Saleh, with career highs in tackles (29), tackles for loss (10) and sacks (10.0). According to Pro Football Focus he also hung up a career-best 67 pressures in 2023 as well. His performance in the 2023 campaign landed him a three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Eagles. Huff struggled in his lone season with Philadelphia, posting 2.5 sacks in 12 games. He also didn't participate in any of their playoff games. For Huff it'll be a fresh start under a defensive coordinator he's familiar with. For the 49ers they're adding a pass rusher with upside to help a defensive end group that desperately needs depth. Huff slots into the top of a depth chart that features Nick Bosa, first-round pick Mykel Williams and veteran Yetur Gross-Matos. Latest Aaron Rodgers leaks, rumors, speculation ahead of potential Steelers signing

The Aaron Rodgers waiting game may finally have an end in sight, with Steelers OTAs and mandatory minicamp quickly approaching. From merchandise orders to insider speculation — and growing confidence within the Steelers organization — here's a timeline of every major report, rumor and leak, from oldest to newest. Adam Schefter reports Steelers are an option for Aaron Rodgers Days before free agency began, insider Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers were a legitimate option for Aaron Rodgers in 2025, per league sources. Rodgers reportedly ordered a Pittsburgh Pirates hat When the 2025 NFL free agency period kicked off on March 12, fashion designer John Geiger claimed on social media that Rodgers had asked for a Pittsburgh Pirates Misplaced Series hat. Rodgers to Vikings rumors heat up On March 15, insider Diana Russini argued that while Rodgers considered the Steelers and Giants as landing spots — the Vikings were his preferred destination in 2025. Russini stated that Rodgers viewed Minnesota as more Super Bowl-ready than Pittsburgh — but clearly the feeling wasn't mutual, as the Vikings made it clear that second-year QB J.J. McCarthy was their guy. Steelers hosted Rodgers for a visit At the end of March, Rodgers had reportedly snuck through the back door of the Steelers facility to meet with GM Omar Khan, HC Mike Tomlin, OC Arthur Smith, and others. Insider Gerry Dulac broke the news — and Rodgers later confirmed on The Pat McAfee Show that the meeting went well. Art Rooney II says all signs on Rodgers arrival are positive ESPN's Brook Pryor reported on April 1 that Steelers President Art Rooney was confident in Rodgers' imminent arrival in Pittsburgh. Rooney admitted that he didn't expect the signing to take so long — but stated the Steelers would wait "a little while longer." Big Night AHT signing rumors One of the biggest Steelers rumors this offseason was Rodgers potentially announcing his Steel City decision at Pat McAfee's Big Night AHT — but he didn't attend the event. McAfee would acknowledge that Rodgers reached out and said it was because he didn't want to take away from the other entertaining individuals that night. The Pat McAfee Show appearance On the April 17 episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers finally cleared the air regarding his 2025 future — addressing his departure from the Jets, Ben Roethlisberger's Vikings speculation, retirement, and a potential Steelers signing. Ultimately, the biggest takeaway was that it came down to retirement or Pittsburgh for the four-time MVP. Rooney says Aaron Rodgers wants to come to Pittsburgh Just before Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, Rooney made an appearance on Steelers Nation Radio and commented on Rodgers' future — that the four-time MVP wants to play for the Steelers. The Steelers would go on to pass on top-QB prospect Shedeur Sanders throughout Day 2 and Day 3 of the draft — further pushing the narrative that Rodgers' arrival was imminent. Rodgers joins Pittsburgh country club rumor surfaces On May 10, Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan claimed that Rodgers had allegedly joined Nevillewood Country Club — one of the top-rated golf courses in the Pittsburgh area. Less than eight hours later, CBS Pittsburgh's Rich Walsh shot down the rumor — stating that he had been in contact with the country club and that, while they'd love to have Rodgers, the four-time MVP had not joined. Steelers fan reportedly spots Rodgers leaving Pittsburgh hotel On 93.7 The Fan, "Brett from Southside" called in and reported that Rodgers was spotted leaving a hotel in Pittsburgh's Strip District on Friday, May 23 — just days away from the beginning of Steelers OTAs on May 27. A small rumor spark that set up for a bigger bang from Rodgers himself. Rodgers' hint at Steelers signing at Mike Stud concert goes viral Video of Rodgers' Q&A at a Mike Stud concert was uploaded on Friday, May 23 — where the four-time MVP was asked if he'd ever consider playing for the Bears. He jokingly declined and hinted at potentially facing them on the road in 2025. With the Steelers scheduled to visit Chicago in Week 12 — and other landing spots essentially nonexistent — there's little doubt which team Rodgers was referencing.
