Steelers Make T.J. Watt Highest-Paid Defender in NFL History
The wait is finally over for T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Set to head into a contract year, Watt was hoping he and the Steelers' front office could see eye-to-eye on a new deal that would pay him more money and offer more long-term financial security. Mission accomplished. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers have signed Watt to a three-year contract extension worth $123 million. It makes him not only the highest-paid defender in the NFL today, but also the richest defensive contract in league history. Watt's new contract offers an annual average value of $41 million per season, just surpassing the $40 million average Myles Garrett received on his new deal earlier this offseason after he demanded a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Watt's new deal offers plenty of upside to earn more, but he's already guaranteed a robust $108 million at signing. While it's a big upgrade for Watt, who was set to have a base salary of $21 million and a cap hit of $30.4 million, now both sides can enter the season with complete confidence that they're on the same page. Entering his ninth NFL season, Watt has already recorded 108 sacks, seven Pro Bowl nods, and four first-team All-Pro selections. He was also named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2021. Now he'll get to build on those Hall of Fame accolades for a few more seasons in Pittsburgh. Patriots agree to terms with second-rounder TreVeyon Henderson
Another 2025 second-round pick has landed a fully guaranteed rookie deal. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Patriots signed running back TreVeyon Henderson on Friday. Henderson was the 38th overall pick in the draft and word of his agreement comes after 37th pick Jonah Savaiinaea and 39th pick Luther Burden agreed to their own fully guaranteed deals. No second-round pick had received a fully guaranteed contract until this year, but every player picked 33rd-39th who has agreed to a deal has now received those guarantees. Henderson ran 144 times for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns while helping Ohio State to a national title last year.

Ex-Steelers wide receiver announces retirement on Day 1 of training camp
In a shocking turn of events, a former Steelers wide receiver has announced his retirement from the NFL at age 30. On Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that ex-Steelers wideout Mike Williams, who signed with the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, retired on Day 1 of training camp. "Sources: Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams' agent, Tory Dandy, informed the team last night that, after eight seasons, his client is retiring from the NFL," Schefter wrote on X. "Williams walks away from the game at age 30." Williams was traded from the Jets to the Steelers in November 2024, and despite showing promise in Pittsburgh's offense, he ultimately finished his Steel City tenure with just nine receptions, 132 receiving yards, and one touchdown in nine games. He was one of the most underrated 50/50 wide receivers in the league, and his surprising retirement leaves a solid final career stat line of 330 receptions, 5,104 receiving yards, and 32 touchdowns in 106 games. Seahawks agree to terms with second-round pick Elijah Arroyo
The Seahawks have gotten their second 2025 second-round pick under contract. Seattle has agreed to terms on tight end Elijah Arroyo's four-year rookie deal, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Arroyo, 22, was the No. 50 overall pick in this year's draft. He was selected 15 picks after Seattle took safety Nick Emmanwori with the third selection of the second round. Emmanwori received a fully guaranteed deal from the Seahawks. But Schefter reports Arroyo's four-year deal is worth $8.813 million with $6.872 million guaranteed. Arroyo played his college ball at Miami, where he recorded 35 receptions for 590 yards with seven touchdowns in 2024. With Arroyo agreeing to terms, Seattle now has all of its 2025 draftees under contract. With rookies already in the building, the Seahawks' veterans are set to report for training camp on July 22.

(Image via Getty Images: T.J. Sanders) Buffalo Bills drafted T. J. Sanders in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft as the 41st overall pick. NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus wrote on his X that the Bills had signed Sanders to a four-year contract worth $10.645 million, with $10.073 guaranteed. An X user instantly commented, 'Huge guaranteed money for second rounder. ' But that's not the case. Just a day prior, Alfred Collins, a defensive lineman, signed a four-year rookie contract deal worth $10.3 million with $9 million guaranteed. The San Francisco 49ers drafted Collins in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft as the 95th overall pick. An X user rightly commented, 'Another near fully guaranteed deal in the second round, this trend is real. Rosenhaus turning Day 2 into premium territory.' — AdamSchefter (@AdamSchefter) Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk explains the meaning of 'guaranteed' in contract talks On July 18, Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk under NBC Sports explained the term 'guaranteed' in contract talks. It means that 95 percent of the contract becomes guaranteed. It has been a hook for the second-round picks to sign their rookie contracts with their respective NFL teams this year. Smith further gave two examples. On May 9, Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger signed a fully guaranteed four-year rookie contract worth $11.8 million. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Shape your journey in the unforgiving desert world of Arrakis! Shop Now Undo Schwesinger was a second-round, 33rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Another rookie is Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins. On May 8, he signed a four-year rookie contract deal worth $11.7 million guaranteed. These two rookie players became the pinnacles of expectation for NFL agents. The agents demanded 30 other second-round picks for guaranteed money. But then, for straight two months, no second-round pick signed any deal. With training camps right around the corner, the teams are under a lot of pressure regarding rookie deals. And, so, Smith reported that a lot of second-round picks have signed in the past 24 hours. Adding to those, came–T.J. Sanders' deal with the Buffalo Bills. T.J. Sanders South Carolina Stats Defensive tackle T.J. Sanders played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks from 2021 to 2024. He played 39 games and accumulated 63 solo tackles, 46 assisted tackles, 109 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, and six passes defended.
