CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Sidman man is facing charges after he allegedly pointed a gun, that he did not have a license for, at another man during a road rage incident. Algie Varner, 55, is facing charges after he allegedly got into a road rage incident and an accident, according to a criminal complaint. On Feb. 2, officers with the Adams Township Police Department were called by the victim who stated that the driver of a white Dodge Caravan was pointing a black handgun with a silver barrel at him on Route 219. The victim told police that he was getting off at the exit on Locust Street and the vehicle was still following him. According to the affidavit, the white Dodge pulled off into a parking lot and the victim said they turned around and were able to get a possible plate for the vehicle. Altoona man accused of holding knife to man's throat during road rage incident Officers advised the victim not to follow the vehicle any longer and at that point, the victim said the white Dodge fled at a high rate of speed. Five minutes after the victim called, police officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident not far from the vicinity of the last reported location of the white Dodge. Officers arrived on the scene to find that the same white Dodge had been in an accident. Varner was identified as the driver and agreed to speak with an officer about the road rage incident and the accident. According to the complaint, Varner reported that he was getting off Route 219 when another vehicle passed him and started to slow down. He told officers that he pointed his phone at them. He told officers that once he got off Route 219 he traveled down Locust Street onto Ragers Hill onto Gramlington Road before he collided with another vehicle at an intersection. The other driver stated that Varner was traveling very fast around a blind coroner. Police noted that Varner was traveling fast enough to disable both vehicles in the accident which would have been 'well above the speed limit.'Officers then asked Varner if they could search his vehicle, but he allegedly refused. The vehicle was impounded while police obtained a search warrant. Once that was obtained officers found a black 9mm handgun with a silver barrel under the driver's seat. They noted that it had nine rounds and one round was in the chamber, according to the affidavit. They noted in the complaint that Varner did not have a valid concealed carry permit in Pennsylvania. Varner is facing a felony charge of firearms without a license and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and false reports.
