Cairo - Khartoum relations are historic and solid: Sudanese Min. of Communications

Egyptian and Sudanese flag pins - file CAIRO - 25 February 2025: Sudanese Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation Adel Hassan praised the Egyptian-Sudanese relations in all fields, stressing that both Egypt and Sudan "are one fabric and one people until now." Hassan said, in an interview with the Middle East News Agency (MENA) in Amman, on the sidelines of the second edition of the "Digital Cooperation and Development Forum", which is being held in Jordan under the slogan "Our Vision, Our World, Our Future", that the Sudanese consider Egypt their second country and vice versa, stressing that Egypt is always in the heart of Sudan, its leadership, government and people. He added that the relations between Cairo and Khartoum are historical, fraternal and strong throughout the ages and times, stressing that Egypt has been and continues to offer a lot to Sudan and its people, especially in times of crises it is going through. He pointed out that cooperation, coordination and exchange of expertise between the two countries have not been interrupted despite the circumstances that Sudan has been going through since the beginning of the war until now, considering that Egypt is always the incubator for the peoples of the region and the world in times of crises and conflicts. Regarding cooperation between the Ministries of Communications in Egypt and Sudan, Minister Adel Hassan noted that the Sudanese Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation is always looking forward to benefiting from Egyptian expertise in many fields, especially digital transformation, smart cities, and others, noting that Egypt has a unique experience in all sectors, especially the communications and information technology sector. He pointed out that Sudan is also looking forward to more cooperation and coordination between the Ministries of Communications in Egypt and Sudan in order to work on rebuilding the communications sector in Sudan after the end of the war, noting that Egypt has extensive experience in this sector and we are working to benefit from it. He further explained that the Sudanese government is also keen to have Egyptian expertise present in rehabilitating the infrastructure, whether in the communications sector or otherwise, following the destruction that occurred due to the war, noting that the Rapid Support Militia destroyed all infrastructure sectors in Sudanese cities. Regarding the current situation in Sudan, the Sudanese minister expressed his satisfaction with the successive victories achieved by the Sudanese army over the Rapid Support Militia and the restoration of most Sudanese cities, expecting that the Sudanese army and its people will soon succeed in declaring victory and restoring all lands and cities from the Rapid Support Militia gangs. He revealed that the Rapid Support Militia destroyed the infrastructure in the Sudanese cities from which they fled and which the Sudanese army entered, noting that the Sudanese government succeeded in recovering all the information stored in the Sudanese ministries and resuming their work remotely to provide services to citizens during the recent war. He gave the example of the Ministry of Communications, which has succeeded for long periods in recovering data and providing services to citizens without their services being affected by the ongoing war, as well as the Ministry of Interior and Finance and many Sudanese bodies and institutions that provide services to citizens, noting that all Sudanese banks are operating without interruption and have secured citizens' balances without being affected by any circumstances. Regarding the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, and his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Youssef Al-Sharif, in Cairo, the Sudanese Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation said that the Sudanese-Egyptian meetings do not stop and there is continuous and diligent work and coordination at a high level between the two countries in various fields, noting that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries comes within the framework of these ongoing meetings in order to continue the Egyptian-Sudanese coordination. He explained that this meeting is a fraternal meeting in the first place and aims to coordinate positions, especially with regard to the common crises between the two countries, most notably the areas of water cooperation and ways to enhance them in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples, and to enhance the concept of water security and joint work to preserve the full water rights of the two countries in accordance with the agreements concluded between them and the applicable rules of international law. The Sudanese minister stressed that Egypt has borne great and many burdens since the beginning of the war until now, noting that Egypt has not closed its doors and has hosted millions who have entered it and provided them with all forms of support and assistance. He added that the Sudanese currently in Egypt receive all the needs of treatment, education and others, as the Egyptian citizen receives without discrimination, noting that the Sudanese enjoy all forms of comfort and generosity, and the Egyptian people welcomed them and provided them with all forms of hospitality. Regarding the Sudanese participation in the Digital Cooperation and Development Forum in Jordan, the Sudanese Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Adel Hassan, said that there is an important message that we are working to convey to everyone by participating in all Arab and international forums, which is that the Sudanese state is present and existing despite all the circumstances of the ongoing war, noting that Sudan has not failed to participate in any international and Arab events since the beginning of the war to confirm that Sudan is continuing.

Salary protests: Kurdish teachers block oil tankers in Al-Sulaymaniyah

Shafaq News/ On Sunday, teachers and government employees blocked roads in Arbat, Al-Sulaymaniyah Province, preventing oil tankers from reaching border crossings in a protest over unpaid salaries. 'The demonstration aimed to highlight that the Kurdistan Region's natural resources should benefit the people rather than serving the ruling authorities,' protester and teacher Ata Mohammed told Shafaq News, calling for oil revenues to be used to improve living conditions and ensure salary payments. Another protester, Adel Hassan, told Shafaq News that 'the blockade follows a 15-day strike and could extend into an open-ended sit-in if demands remain unmet.' Al-Sulaymaniyah, like other areas in the Iraqi Kurdistan, is grappling with a deepening financial crisis due to chronic salary delays. Despite an Erbil-Baghdad agreement on oil exports and Kurdistan's share in Iraq's recently approved budget, implementation remains stalled, prolonging the crisis.
