Former Hornets boss Edwards takes charge at Middlesbrough

Watford will come up against former head coach Rob Edwards next season after Championship rivals Middlesbrough confirmed he has taken charge at the Riverside. The 42-year-old's appointment has been expected and he has signed a three-year contract, returning to management after leaving the Hornets' rivals Luton Town in January. 'It's something that's not lost on me, how big this is, how important this is, and what it means to people. There is an amazing fanbase. 'It felt instantly that this was right for me and it got me excited. If I was going to come back in, I wanted to come back in at a place where we had a chance, and we have a really good chance here. 'We have a brilliant owner who historically gives his coaches time, support, and the tools needed to try and be successful. I can't wait to get started now.' The former defender won his first promotion with Forest Green in 2022 and was appointed at Vicarage Road soon after, only to be sacked the following September after just ten games in charge. He will be joined at Boro, who sacked Michael Carrick after missing out on the play-offs last season, by former Coventry City assistant manager Adi Viveash and Harry Watling, whose coaching experience includes spells at Chelsea and West Ham.
