Gujarat: Health worker arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old contractual health worker from Kutch district for allegedly giving sensitive information about military establishments to a Pakistani spy, PTI reported. This was the third arrest related to alleged spying in the state in the past eight months, The Indian Express said. The accused man, Sahdevsinh Deepubha Gohil, a contractual multipurpose health worker posted at the Mata-na-Madh Primary Health Centre in Kutch, allegedly shared sensitive photos and videos of installations of the Border Security Force and the Indian Navy with the operative. Gohil came in contact with the Pakistani agent, who identified herself as Aditi Bharadwaj, on WhatsApp in mid-2023, PTI quoted the police as saying. 'After winning his trust, the agent sought photos and videos of BSF and Indian Navy offices and ongoing construction around his village,' Superintendent of Police (ATS) Siddharth Korukonda said. 'Gohil shared the requested classified information via WhatsApp.' The police official alleged that the health worker knew that the woman was a Pakistani spy. In January, Gohil allegedly obtained a new SIM card using his Aadhaar and activated WhatsApp on it before handing it over to Bharadwaj, the anti-terrorism squad alleged. The health worker allegedly received Rs 40,000 in cash via a middleman for the leaked information, The Indian Express added. The anti-terrorism squad detained Gohil on May 1, and arrested him on Saturday. A case has been filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to criminal conspiracy and waging or abetting war against the government. A case has been filed under the same sections against the operative 'Aditi Bharadwaj' as well. In the past two weeks, at least 13 persons have been arrested across the country on allegations of spying for Pakistan and leaking sensitive information about Operation Sindoor, the Indian military operation against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which left 26 persons dead.

Gujarat Man Arrested For Sharing Sensitive Information With Pakistani Agent

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested Sahdev Singh Gohil, a multipurpose health worker from Kachchh district, for allegedly sharing classified information related to the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Navy with a Pakistani agent via WhatsApp. Gohil was allegedly sharing sensitive photos and videos of BSF and Indian Navy sites with a woman named Aditi Bharadwaj, identified as a Pakistani agent, through WhatsApp. ANI quoted Gujarat ATS Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Siddharth as saying, "Gujarat ATS arrested Sahdev Singh Gohil, a multipurpose health worker from Kachchh. We had information that he had been sharing information related to BSF and Indian Navy with a Pakistani agent.' According to SP Siddharth, Gohil was initially contacted by Bharadwaj in 2023 and continued to share critical information until 2025, receiving financial compensation for his actions. 'The accused was called here for a preliminary investigation on May 1. It was revealed that during June-July 2023, Sahdev Singh Gohil had come in contact with a girl named Aditi Bharadwaj through WhatsApp. While speaking to her, he came to know that she was a Pakistani agent. She asked for photos and videos of the BSF and Indian Navy sites, which were under construction or newly constructed. He started sharing photos and videos through WhatsApp," Siddharth added. According to SP Siddharth, Forensic Science Laboratory analysis confirmed that the WhatsApp numbers linked to Bharadwaj were operated from Pakistan, highlighting the cross-border nature of the espionage. "At the beginning of 2025, he bought a SIM card on his Aadhaar Card and activated WhatsApp on that number for Aditi Bharadwaj with the help of OTP. After that, all photos and videos related to BSF and Indian Navy were shared on that number. He was also paid Rs 40,000 in cash by another man. His phone was sent to the FSL. The WhatsApp numbers under Aditi Bharadwaj's name were being operated from Pakistan," the Gujarat ATS SP stated. A case has been registered against Gohil and Bharadwaj under Sections 61 and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Gujarat ATS nabs health worker for alleged espionage for Pakistan; this is the third such arrests in eight months

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 28-year-old health worker from the sensitive border district of Kutch, exposing an alleged espionage network run by Pakistani intelligence operatives. This marks the third high-stakes spy arrest in Gujarat in just eight months — a pattern that has alarmed national security agencies. The accused, Sahdevsinh Deepubha Gohil, a multipurpose health worker posted at the Mata-na-Madh Primary Health Centre, was taken into custody after investigators discovered he had allegedly passed classified photographs and videos of Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Navy installations to a handler identified only as 'Aditi Bharadwaj' — an alias used by a Pakistani intelligence agent. According to ATS press release, Gohil came into contact with 'Aditi Bharadwaj' via WhatsApp around June or July 2023, after which he was systematically groomed into leaking sensitive content — including images of under-construction and recently completed military facilities in the Kutch region. 'In January 2025, Gohil reportedly procured a new SIM card using his Aadhaar ID, activated WhatsApp, and handed over the device to the handler, continuing to transmit sensitive data. Investigators allege he was paid Rs 40,000 in cash through an intermediary for his services to the foreign agency,' said the release. According to ATS officials, the arrest followed a coordinated surveillance operation combining technical intelligence and human sources, with corroboration from central intelligence agencies. Gohil was detained on May 1 and formally arrested after evidence surfaced of sustained communication and data transmission.
