‘Bows drop 3 straight sets in NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Semifinals
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors took on the UCLA Bruins in the NCAA Championship Semifinals on Saturday. The (2) 'Bows and (3) Bruins have combined to win the last 4 straight NCAA Titles, this year UH trying to punch their ticket to the title match for a chance at their 3rd in that stretch. In the 1st set, UH came out slow as UCLA took the 5-4 lead and increased it to 18-9 before the 'Bows reached the 10-point mark. Hawaii only had 5 kills in the 1st set and had a hitting % of .048 as UCLA took the frame 25-14. In the 2nd set, UH lead 10-8 and continued to battle back and forth with the Bruins, even after UCLA took a 13-10 lead over the 'Bows. Hawaii took a 23-22 lead late in the set, but gave up 3 straight points to the Bruins who handed UH a 25-23 2nd set loss. For the 3rd set, UH trying to keep their season alive and avoid the sweep. Hawaii trailed 12-6 but did battle back to pull within 2 midway through the set. But Hawaii just unable grab the lead as UCLA held on to win 25-22. UH never led in the 3rd set. (2) Hawaii falls in 3 straight sets to (3) UCLA (14-25, 23-25, 23-25). The 'Bows season comes to an end in the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Semifinals. Hawai'i men's volleyball seeded second in NCAA Tournament
Fresh off capturing its fourth Big West title, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team was awarded the No. 2 seed for the 2025 NCAA National Championship tournament, set for May 8-12 in Columbus, Ohio. The Rainbow Warriors (26-5) will open play in the quarterfinals against the winner of Daemen and Penn State. Despite going 2-1 against Long Beach State this season — including a victory over the top-seeded Beach in Saturday's Big West Championship final — UH was slotted behind LBSU, which earned the tournament's top seed. The Rainbow Warriors claimed the 2025 Big West crown with a four-set win over Long Beach State, 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Adrien Roure recorded 11 kills without an error to earn Most Valuable Player honors, while Louis Sakanoko fired four aces to spark the fourth set. Setter Tread Rosenthal sealed the win by delivering the match-clinching point. Hawai'i adds the 2025 title to its previous Big West championships in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
