Staindrop students deliver Christmas joy with food bank hampers
CARING pupils at a North East secondary school have collected more than 50 hampers of food and essentials to help vulnerable people in their area.
Each year group at Staindrop Academy, in the County Durham village, helped to sort and package up donated goods into dozens of gaily-wrapped hampers, ready to be delivered to food banks and elderly locals.

Head teacher Sarah Mitchinson said: 'We're incredibly proud of our pupils for the effort they've put into making up these hampers, and very grateful to them, their families, and our staff members who have donated hundreds of items.'
The hampers from the school, which is part of the Advance Learning Partnership, will be shared between local residents and two nearby food banks: The Well in Bishop Auckland, and The Hub in Barnard Castle.
Mrs Mitchinson added: 'As a rural secondary academy, we're glad to be part of a very close-knit, caring community, so it's entirely appropriate that these donations are will go to those people in our area who could use a little bit of help this Christmas.'
