Aer Lingus new boarding rules for 2025 as passengers split into four groups
Aer Lingus has announced a major change to how passengers will board its flights in 2025. The airline is introducing a new four-group system which aims to streamline the boarding process and reduce congestion at the gate. The updated procedures will apply to both European and transatlantic routes, affecting thousands of travellers flying into and out of Ireland this summer and beyond. The airline, which flies from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Ireland West Knock airports, is encouraging all passengers to familiarise themselves with the changes ahead of travel. Whether you're flying to a European destination or taking a long-haul flight across the Atlantic, knowing which boarding group you're in could save time and unnecessary hassle. Here's what passengers need to know. European flights For flights within Europe, boarding typically begins 30 to 40 minutes before departure. Pre-boarding starts with passengers requiring special assistance. Group 1 (Priority Boarding) includes AerClub Silver, Platinum and Concierge members, AerSpace customers and connecting Business Class passengers. Group 2 is for passengers entitled to bring a 10kg carry-on bag onboard. This will be indicated on your boarding pass as 'Carry-on bag'. Group 3 includes all remaining passengers. Transatlantic flights On long-haul services from Dublin and Shannon, boarding begins roughly 40 to 50 minutes before departure. Pre-boarding again starts with those needing special assistance. Group 1 (Priority Boarding) is reserved for Business Class customers. Group 2 includes AerClub Silver, Platinum and Concierge members. Group 3 and Group 4 cover Economy Class passengers, starting with those seated in rear rows and followed by the rest. Aer Lingus has issued reminders to help ensure a smooth travel experience:

More info Aer Lingus has introduced new boarding groups for flights departing and arriving into Ireland this summer. The airline, which operates out of Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Ireland West Knock, has divided passengers into groups ahead of boarding. If you're planning to fly this year, it's worth noting the simple and effective process before getting on board. For European flights, boarding usually begins approximately 30–40 minutes before the departure time on your boarding pass. Pre-boarding will commence first for customers with special assistance requirements. The next group to be invited to board the aircraft will be Priority boarding – Group 1, comprised of AerClub Silver, Platinum and Concierge members, AerSpace customers and Connecting Business Class customers. General boarding – Group 2 is up next for customers with a 10kg carry-on bag entitlement. Your boarding pass will indicate 'Carry-on bag' to confirm your eligibility. All remaining customers will board the aircraft in general boarding – Group 3. Aer Lingus advises people to ensure they arrive at their boarding gate no later than the time stated on their boarding pass, reports RSVP Live. If you have booked a transatlantic flight to or from Dublin Airport or Shannon Airport, boarding starts around 40–50 minutes before the stated departure time. Pre-boarding will kick off with customers requiring special assistance, followed by Business Class customers in Priority boarding – Group 1. General boarding – Group 2 will comprise of AerClub Silver, Platinum and Concierge members. Next up in General boarding – Group 3 will be Economy Class customers and those seated in the rear rows. All remaining passengers will board the aircraft in General boarding – Group 4. Aer Lingus issued some handy tips for anyone who's booked a flight with them. Make sure to take note so you don't miss your flight or get hit with any unexpected charges. Keep an eye on the airport screens and the Aer Lingus app for boarding gate information and updates on your boarding time. Allow enough time to get to your gate, factoring in time for possible transfers to your boarding area, passport control checks, etc. which can vary from airport to airport. When you get to the gate, take a seat and relax. The boarding lanes should be kept clear so everyone can enjoy stress-free boarding. Please only join your assigned lane when your group is called. As you join the lane for boarding, each customer should have their own boarding pass and passport/ID document ready at the photo page for inspection by our boarding staff. Customers who bring a 10kg carry-on bag and are not entitled to bring it on board, will be charged a €35/£35 fee at the boarding gate. Please avoid this by dropping your bag free of charge at check in. If your aircraft is parked away from the terminal building, we will provide a bus to take you from the boarding gate to the aircraft. If, due to limited capacity in the overhead lockers, we don't have space for everyone's bags, we will put your bag into the aircraft hold free of charge and you can collect it from baggage reclaim at your destination airport.
