Egyptian FM meets Cypriot, Senegalese counterparts, talk bilateral relations in Brussels

CAIRO - 22 May 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Dr. Badr Abdelatty held several side meetings on the sidelines of the Africa-Europe Ministerial Meeting on Wednesday, May 21, in Brussels.
These meetings included the foreign ministers of Romania, the Czech Republic, Malta, Burundi, and Gabon; the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; the Commissioner for Peace and Security for Africa; the African Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy; and the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Netherlands. During his meetings, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized Egypt's importance to strengthening relations with European and African countries in various fields to achieve common interests.
Egyptian FM's meeting with Cypriot counterpart
Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met with Mr. Konstantinos Kompous, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, on Wednesday, May 21, on the sidelines of the Africa-Europe Ministerial Meeting in Brussels.
Minister Abdelatty praised the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus and emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the political momentum generated, following the two fruitful summits in January 2025 in Cairo, both the bilateral Egyptian-Cypriot summit and the tripartite summit between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece.
He highlighted the importance of activating all agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the last two bilateral and trilateral summits, as well as previous summits, particularly the labor agreement signed between the two countries.
He further expressed his aspiration to advance relations to broader horizons in various fields, most notably enhancing economic and trade cooperation, emphasizing the strategic importance of the energy file in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Minister Abdelatty praised Cyprus' support for Egypt in various European Union institutions, particularly with regard to the European financial package provided to Egypt. He expressed his aspiration to intensify cooperation during the Cypriot presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2026, particularly with the advancement of relations between Egypt and the European Union to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, most notably the Palestinian issue. Minister Abdelatty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt's efforts to restore the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. The two ministers emphasized the need to continue coordination and intensify efforts to de-escalate and reduce tensions in the region, in order to support security and stability.
Egyptian FM's meeting with Senegalese counterpart
Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration also met with Ms. Yassine Fall, Senegalese Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, May 21, on the sidelines of the African-European Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the brotherly relations between Egypt and Senegal, noting the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the importance of building on the momentum witnessed in bilateral relations to explore new horizons for cooperation.
He also highlighted Egypt's interest in strengthening partnerships between the private sectors of the two countries, and the implementation of infrastructure projects by Egyptian companies, benefiting from Egyptian expertise in the fields of new city construction, irrigation network projects, land reclamation, and other areas.
The two ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Sahel and West Africa, as well as ways to enhance joint African action and regional integration among the continent's countries to achieve common interests.
