Limpopo boxer Worship Chauke crowned African Youth Champion
LIMPOPO – Fast-rising boxing talent Worship Chauke clinched gold in the 80kg category at the 2025 African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Youth Championships, recently held in Conakry, Guinea.
The 18-year-old from Malamulele in the Collins Chabane Municipality, proudly flew the Limpopo flag high as he triumphed over some of the best young boxers from across the continent.
Chauke described his opening match against a Guinean opponent as intense.
'He was short, muscular, and confident. I kept my hands up and used jabs to control the distance. When he moved in closer, I stepped back and landed a strong left hook that knocked him off balance. The referee stepped in for the count, and that punch was too much for him to handle,' Chauke said.
In the final, he faced a Libyan contender and dominated from the first round through to the third, securing his place as the Youth 80kg African Champion.
Collins Chabane Mayor Gezane Shadrack Maluleke congratulated Chauke on his victory.
'Worship Chauke is a role model to young people. His win shows that perseverance leads to success. We are proud of him and confident that many young boxers will be inspired by his journey,' said Maluleke.
