YES Sabah of IEM strengthens collaborative efforts with local institution for engineering excellence
The Electrical Engineering Department of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu expressed appreciation to IEM YES Sabah for sharing valuable insights and inspiring the students.
KOTA KINABALU (April 26): The Young Engineers Section (YES) Sabah of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) was recently invited to the Electrical Department Day 2025, organized by Electrical Engineering Department of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu.
The event served as a valuable platform to introduce engineering students to IEM and its initiatives aimed at nurturing future engineering talents.
It commenced with opening remarks by the organizing chair, Ts Joenel Jekli Lipong, lecturer from Polytechnic KK. Representing IEM YES Sabah, Ag Khairul Kamaludin, the chairman of IEM YES Sabah, delivered an engaging session to the Diploma in Electrical Engineering students. He introduced the vision and mission of IEM and YES, and highlighted the benefits of becoming a student member, including access to networking opportunities, potential industrial training placements, professional development resources, and exposure to industry standards and practices.
Joining him at the event were Ts. Dr Shahadahtul Asman, representing Graduate & Student Affairs, and Nazreen Shah Baharun, who heads publicity for IEM YES.
Ag Khairul also shared his personal experiences from the industry and encouraged students to pursue further studies, particularly a Bachelor's Degree, to broaden their career prospects in the engineering field.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the IEM YES representatives by Electrical Engineering Department head Ts. Benny Doimin @ Mhd Azmi Mohd Zamlan, marking the closing ceremony for the event.
In line with IEM's ongoing efforts to be more inclusive, a new membership grade specifically for diploma students namely IEM Engineering Technician Graduate Member ( has recently been introduced.
This move reinforces IEM's commitment to supporting the growth and development of students and graduates across all levels of the engineering profession.
