KUCHING (June 15): The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) celebrated Father's Day today by distributing 'shoutao' (longevity buns) at the Stutong Community Market and Kenyalang Market.
The initiative, led by Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, was part of the council's ongoing commitment to its Age-Friendly Cities programme.
In a statement, Wee said the distribution of the buns served not only as a token of appreciation for fathers, but as a cultural reminder of filial piety.
'While Mother's Day is widely commemorated, Father's Day can sometimes pass quietly. Thus, it is important to give due recognition to the vital role fathers play in shaping families and communities.
'Many times, we remember our mothers on Mother's Day, but we must also remind ourselves that our fathers too have made countless sacrifices for us. Today (June 15) is a small gesture to honour their strength, love and commitment.
'MBKS hopes the act will inspire the younger generation to cherish and respect their parents in line with the Age-Friendly Cities programme, which aims to promote inter-generational care and stronger family bonds,' he said.
Wee added MBKS remains committed to fostering a caring, inclusive and respectful city for people of all ages. community Father's Day Kuching South City Council wee hong seng
