Steuben County farmers can request to join agricultural district
STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — Steuben County landowners will have one month to request to become part of an agricultural district.
The Steuben County Planning Board is encouraging farmers who live in the county to enroll their land in an agricultural district between Feb. 15 and March 17. The county designated this time as the required annual 30-day period it will take requests during.
According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, agricultural districts reduce property tax bills for farmland. These districts also protect farmers from things like unreasonable regulations on farm practices and private nuisance lawsuits.

Landowners who have viable agricultural land or land that is actively farmed and can demonstrate this can request to join a certified New York State Agricultural District if the land isn't already part of one. Only whole parcels of land are eligible to enroll, and the county is only accepting applications for landowners to join existing districts.
Farmers who would like to apply to join an agricultural district should print the form below and mail the completed form to the address at the bottom of it.
