Egypt strongly condemns Israel's attacks on Syria
CAIRO – 26 February 2025: Egypt strongly condemned on Wednesday the recent Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, considering it a 'systematic escalation' and a violation of international law. Egypt stressed that the Israeli approach increases tension and conflict, and constitutes a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Egypt also called on the active international parties and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities in obliging Israel to stop its violations and put an end to it. In a statement for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt confirmed the importance of Israel's withdrawal from the Syrian territories it recently occupied in violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, in preparation for achieving a complete withdrawal from the Syrian territories occupied in 1967, considering that the Golan Heights is occupied Syrian territory. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit also condemned in the strongest possible terms Israeli attacks and raids on Syrian territories, considering Israeli violations as reckless provocation and an escalation against the opportunity of political transition in Syria to impose an illegal and illegitimate reality. In a statement Wednesday, official spokesman of the AL secretary general Jamal Rushdi quoted the AL secretary general as saying that the Israeli occupation of any Syrian territory came in violation of international law and the international community should adopt a clear stand to condemn this unjustified aggression meant to ignite tension in the region and put obstacles in the way of political transition in Syria. He reiterated the pan-Arab body's solidarity with Syria in confronting the Israeli aggression on its lands and Israel's blatant attempts to sow the seeds of discord.
