Oman International Drift Championship to make first appearance in Suhar

Muscat: The Oman International Drift Championship (OIDC) will make a first appearance in the bustling city of Suhar as it hosts the OIDC 2025's second and concluding third rounds. The globally recognised drifting spectacle — organised by the Oman Automobile Association — is in its seventh edition, attended by 56 drivers from 18 countries. Sohar Talent Square, a new venue that will be officially inaugurated during the finals of the second round, will stage the intense drift action. The first round, which concluded at OAA's Muscat Drift Arena on January 31, saw former champion Ali Makhseed of Kuwait claiming the opening victory of OIDC 2025 when he beat local hope Ahmed al Amri. Dutch driver Clint van Oort finished third to make a strong start. Ali Makhseed and Ahmed al Amri repeated their one-two spots in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) section while Omani driver Haitham al Hadidi claimed the third position. In the National category for Omani drivers, Ahmed al Amri came on top followed by Haitham al Hadidi and Tariq al Shaihani in second and third spots respectively. SUHAR IN FOCUS The drifting action is the second major motorsports event coming to the city after the recently concluded Oman International Rally 2025, won by Qatar's Nasser Saleh al Attiyah for a record-breaking eighth time. The drift event is organised in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North and the Oman Automobile Association, as part of efforts to strengthen Oman's presence on the international motorsport scene. The overall winners in various categories will be crowned after the third round. The event is being organised by the OAA under the chairmanship of Brigadier Jamal bin Said al Tai, managing director Suleiman al Rawahi and race director Fahmi al Busaidy.

Muscat: Oman's Ahmed al Amri took the top spot with 93 points in the qualifying round followed by Dutch driver Clint van Oort (91.70) and Matskevich Kiryl to reach the last 32 of the Oman International Drift Championship (OIDC) 2025. Other top contenders including Ahmed Daham of Jordan, Ali Makhseed of Kuwait, Lithuania's Benediktas Cirba, Nasser al Harbali and Oman's Tariq al Shaihani also made it to the knockout rounds in the well-contested qualifying action on Thursday at the Oman Automobile Association's (OAA) Muscat Drift Arena. Other Omani drivers to make it to the knockout round were Haitham al Hadidi, Riyadh Salim al Mabsali, Hazaa al Hosni, Ali al Balushi and Reefat al Yahyai. A notable absence in the knockout of first round was former runner-up Sebastian Fontijn of the Netherlands. As many as 56 drivers from 18 countries compete in the qualifying round. Recognised as one of the most successful and widely attended drift events in the world, the championship has been a global highlight since its inception in 2018. Competitions are being held in National (Oman), Middle East and North Africa and International categories. The drifting scene will shift to Suhar for the second and third rounds. Suhar will host the second and third rounds on February 13, 14 and February 20 and 21 respectively at Suhar Arena. The overall winners in different categories of OIDC 2025 will be crowned at Suhar Arena after the third round action. The event is being run under the chairmanship of Brigadier Jamal bin Said al Tai, managing director Suleiman al Rawahi and race director Fahmi al Busaidy.
