COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A LaGrange High School teacher was chosen as Troup County's Teacher of the Year on Wednesday night.
Mr. Aidan Blackwell, teacher of 11th and 12th grade IB History of the Americas and 11th and 12th AP History, was announced as the winner during the annual TOTY reception at the Oakfuskee Conservation Center.
Blackwell was chosen by three out of the system judges who visited the candidates in their classroom to observe a lesson being taught and to interview the finalists.
Deneshia Norman, a 7th-grade English Language Arts teacher at Callaway Middle School, and Kathey Sandiford, a 5th-grade writing teacher at Long Cane Elementary School, were also finalists.
In addition to being named the TCSS Teacher of the Year, Mr. Blackwell will now represent Troup County Schools in the state Teacher of the Year competition sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education.
