Create Account Durham Regional Police say members of the Tactical Support Unit (TSU) were travelling east on Hwy. 401 when they observed a vehicle 'driving erratically' shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday. 'They attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle exited the highway, fleeing northbound on Stevenson Rd. S.,' Const. Brittany Kennedy said in a statement released Wednesday. With help from Air1, their police helicopter, she said officers followed the vehicle until it came to a stop in a green space near Simcoe St. S. and Valley Dr. 'The driver fled on foot, but Air1 was able to provide his location to officers on the ground and he was taken into custody,' Kennedy explained. Video from above, captured by Air1 and released by police, shows the suspect vehicle speeding along a road, driving straight through a T-intersection and ending up in a field. The driver is then seen running away from the vehicle for a short distance before dropping to the ground. Numerous officers can be seen closing in on the suspect while receiving direction from Air1 and then taking the individual into custody. Video shows alleged impaired driver fleeing from police in Oshawa
A suspected impaired driver evading police in Durham region is captured in this chopper video. A 43-year-old man is facing 'numerous charges,' including impaired driving, after police say he was caught on video fleeing from officers in Oshawa. According to police, members of the Durham Regional Police Service's tactical support unit were heading east on Highway 401 when they observed a motorist 'driving erratically.' A traffic stop was attempted but the driver exited the highway, fleeing north on Stevenson Road South, police said. Video captured from a police helicopter shows the driver leaving the roadway and coming to a stop in a nearby green space in the area of Simcoe Street South and Valley Drive. The driver is then seen leaving the vehicle and fleeing on foot. 'Air1 was able to provide his location to officers on the ground and he was taken into custody,' police said in a news release. The man has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, dangerous operation of a motor-vehicle, failing to stop for police, and operation while prohibited, police said.

Kauai firefighters perform two trail rescues on Sunday
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Kauai firefighters carried out two separate rescues on Sunday, aiding stranded hikers at Kalalau Beach and along the Waipoo Falls Trail in Kōke'e State Park. Gloomy Monday ahead The first call came in just after 9:15 a.m., when a man at remote Kalalau Beach reported severe stomach issues and was unable to hike out. Rescue crews responded and airlifted the man to the Waimea Ballpark landing zone. He was transferred to medics for further care by 10:30 in the day, around 5:45 p.m., crews were dispatched to the Waipoo Falls Trail to assist a 44-year-old visitor from California who injured her ankle while hiking. Due to weather conditions, Air 1 had to land nearby, and firefighters hiked in to reach her. She was carried out using a rescue seat and flown to a landing zone before being handed off to medical personnel. Suspected impaired driver slams truck into Whitby house, flees scene on foot

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Doug Ives A suspected impaired driver was arrested after they crashed their vehicle into a Whitby home on Saturday night and then attempted to flee the scene on foot, police say. The incident happened in the area of Carnwith Drive East and Watford Street at around 11:50 p.m. Police say that a white Chevrolet pick-up was travelling northbound on Watford Street at a high rate of speed when its driver sped through a stop sign and crashed into the home, causing significant damage to the structure. 'The driver of the pick-up truck fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area with the assistance of Air1 and located the male not far from the scene of the incident,' police said in a news release issued on Monday. Lucas Desbois, 25, is facing four charges in connection with the incident, including impaired operation of a conveyance and dangerous operation of a conveyance. He has since been released from custody on an undertaking and is due in court at a later date. Police say that the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
