Bahrain: Anti Narcotics Directorate Foils Drug Smuggling Attempt Via Air Cargo
The Anti Narcotics Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, in coordination with the Air Customs Directorate at Customs Affairs, has foiled an attempt to smuggle over 11 kilograms of narcotics via air cargo, with an estimated street value of BHD 64,000. The operation began when Air Customs officers intercepted a postal package containing 1.156 kilograms of synthetic cannabis. The parcel was handed over to the Anti Narcotics Directorate, which launched an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of a 20 year old Asian national, the intended recipient. Authorities seized an additional 10 kilograms of drugs from the suspect. The General Directorate confirmed that all necessary legal procedures have been completed, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution. The Forensic Media Division emphasised its commitment to raising awareness through community outreach, including lectures and exhibitions aimed at preventing drug use. The seized drugs, valued at approximately BD 90,000, were confiscated on the spot. Following the interception, the case was promptly handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Directorate under the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science. Through swift coordination, authorities were able to arrest a second suspect, also an Asian national aged 23, who was located within the Kingdom and found to be connected to the smuggling operation. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding Bahrain's borders and preventing the infiltration of illegal substances, stressing that all necessary legal actions are being taken against those involved.
