Last Updated: Air India will add its 'AI' code to Air Mauritius flights going to Cape Town, Johannesburg (South Africa), and Antananarivo (Madagascar). Air India and Air Mauritius have announced a major expansion of their existing codeshare agreement, making travel between India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar easier than ever. The move was officially signed during the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, with top leaders from both airlines present, including Air India's CEO Campbell Wilson and Air Mauritius Chairman Kishore Beegoo. What's New in the Deal? A total of 17 routes will now fall under the expanded codeshare. This means more flight options and greater connectivity across the Indian Subcontinent and Southern Africa. Under the agreement: Air India will place its 'AI' flight code on Air Mauritius services to Cape Town, Johannesburg (South Africa), and Antananarivo (Madagascar) via Mauritius. It already shares codes with Air Mauritius on flights between Mauritius and Mumbai, Delhi, and Reunion. Meanwhile: Air Mauritius will place its 'MK' flight code on Air India services across several Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Goa. For the first time, it will also codeshare on Air India's direct flights between Mauritius and Mumbai. This means passengers of either airline can book flights operated by the other, making travel smoother with single-ticket booking and checked-through luggage. Campbell Wilson of Air India said,"This expanded codeshare partnership with Air Mauritius is another step toward widening our extended global network, which enables our customers to easily access these destinations." Kishore Beegoo of Air Mauritius added,"Air Mauritius is pleased to expand its collaboration with Air India, offering our passengers connections to numerous destinations across India via Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai." Emirates Renews Partnership with Air Mauritius to Boost Connectivity and Tourism
Emirates and Air Mauritius have renewed their longstanding strategic partnership, reinforcing their commitment to expand travel options, support tourism, and strengthen economic ties through enhanced codeshare and cooperation agreements. The renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Mauritius, builds on a collaboration first launched in 2003 and last expanded in 2013. It includes reciprocal codesharing on select routes, joint frequent flyer benefits, and integrated cargo handling services. Under the agreement, Air Mauritius will place its code on Emirates-operated flights to six major cities including Cairo, Colombo, and Jeddah, while Emirates will codeshare on Air Mauritius' service to Antananarivo. Both carriers will also offer passengers seamless ticketing and reward redemption across their respective networks. Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates, said the partnership continues to deliver tangible value to Mauritius, with contributions to tourism, employment, and global connectivity. Since 2002, Emirates has flown over 8.8 million passengers and moved 126,000 tonnes of cargo to and from the island. The partnership has helped generate an estimated USD900 million in annual benefits for Mauritius, including USD264 million in tourism receipts and the creation of 3,600 jobs. Emirates currently operates 14 weekly A380 flights between Dubai and Mauritius, the only airline offering First Class service on the route. Air Mauritius Chairman Kremchand Beegoo called the renewal a significant milestone that deepens the airlines' complementarity and enhances access for Mauritian travelers to Emirates' extensive global network of over 128 destinations. With 164 commercial cooperation agreements worldwide, Emirates continues to expand its reach, reinforcing its role as a key player in global aviation partnerships. News Source: Dubai Media Office
