Dry for Saturday, tracking rain and thunderstorms on Sunday
The Latest From Storm Team 5… We received good news in terms of the wildfire smoke, we no longer have an Air Quality Alerts in northeast Wisconsin as the latest one expired at noon Friday. However, this weekend, the WI DNR is saying we will have some elevated levels of smoke around and some surface ozone, but conditions are looking better then days past. Tonight, an early shower is possible, but most see mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low to mid 50s. Saturday will be the best day of the weekend. Expecting a mixture of sun and clouds, high temperatures will work back into the middle 70s. We were watching the chance of a pop up shower, but the main thinking is that will stay out in central and western WI. At worst, a brief shower may brush up against our western counties. Sunday will start dry, but a cold front cutting across the state will bring with it a line of rain and thunderstorms, beginning in the late morning and ending by the late afternoon. Then we will watch for a few more isolated thunderstorms to pop up during the evening. Severe weather is not expected. Highs will sit in the low 70s. The upper level low from this system will rotate in on Monday, likely bringing more scattered showers and storms on Monday. Adding an early rain chance Tuesday, but expecting a run of dry weather as temperatures warm up mid week. Watch for the return of more smoke early next week. Air Quality Alert issued for NYC
NEW YORK (PIX11) — An air quality health advisory was issued for the New York City metro area, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The advisory will be in effect from midnight Wednesday until midnight Thursday. More Local News Officials warn of fine particulate matter in the air. Levels of fine particulate matter are expected to rise due to wildfire smoke from New Jersey, making the air unhealthy for elderly and very young people, as well as those with heart or lung disease. To reduce exposure, people should consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity and staying indoors. Anyone who experiences symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, or coughing should consider consulting their personal physician. New Yorkers can sign up for up-to-date Air Quality Alerts from the DEC or contact the toll-free Air Quality Hotline (1-800-535-1345) for the latest information.
