Heat & humidity grip Indore: Rain, thunderstorms likely over weekend
Indore: After witnessing soaring temperature and uncomfortable humidity on Friday, Indoreans may finally get some relief as the Meteorological Department has said that rain and thunderstorm activity will begin from Saturday across the city and surrounding districts.
The weather forecast also indicated that no heatwave alert will remain in effect from Saturday till June 17 in Indore-Ujjain division, offering further respite to residents in western Madhya Pradesh. Northern parts of MP, including Gwalior and Chambal divisions, are expected to witness a heatwave on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the residents of Indore witnessed a hot and humid Friday as temperatures remained elevated despite a slight dip from Thursday's peak.
After experiencing dusty winds and scattered showers the previous day, the city saw no rainfall on Friday, though humidity levels remained high, adding to public discomfort.
The maximum temperature on Friday settled at 38.2 degrees Celsius, down from Thursday's sweltering 41.6 degrees Celsius. However, the humidity level climbed to 67% in the morning and remained at 52% in the evening, making the day feel hotter than recorded temperatures.

Winds blew from the west at 27 km/h in the evening, offering some relief.
Heatwaves persisted across many parts of the Indore-Ujjain division. In most of these areas, temperatures crossed the 40-degree mark on Friday with Ratlam recording 41.2°C, Ujjain 41°C, Khargone 41°C, Khandwa 40.1°C, and Dhar 38.4°C.
According to the regional weather office, light rainfall or drizzles accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are expected at isolated places in Indore and nearby districts like Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ujjain, Shajapur, Dhar and Dewas.
Meanwhile, heavy rain with thunderstorm activity are likely in Ratlam, Alirajpur and Jhabua on Saturday.
The rainfall and thunderstorm activity is expected to continue in parts of Indore-Ujjain division till June 17, potentially bringing some relief from the heat.
Synoptic conditions suggest favourable advancement of the southwest monsoon in the coming days. A cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and an associated trough line across Madhya Pradesh are influencing the region's weather. The forecast indicates no significant change in weather for two days, followed by a gradual drop of 2–3°C in temperature.
