IndiGo inks pact for buying additional 30 Airbus 350-900 wide-body aircraft, ET Infra

NEW DELHI: India's largest airline IndiGo has entered into an agreement with Airbus with an intent to order an additional 30 Airbus 350-900 wide-body aircraft . In April 2024, the airline placed a firm order for its first 30 Airbus 350-900 aircraft, with purchase rights for an additional 70 Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business at Airbus and Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, at the sidelines of the ongoing 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association being held in Delhi from June 1 to June 3, airline's order book with Airbus is currently around 900 aircraft comprising narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.'We have recently started with wide-body operations. We are extremely excited about the progress…we saw this was a wonderful opportunity to actually double our firm order from 30 to 60 and use the occasion here today where the whole world is gathering in Delhi itself for the occasion,' said to the airline, the Airbus 350-900 aircraft will be powered by Rolls Royce's Trent XWB engine.'The mission capability of this aircraft, coupled with the efficiency of the Trent XWB engine, will offer IndiGo unprecedented optionality and reach as it embarks on the next stage of its wonderful journey of addressing the rapidly evolving needs of the Indian market and our nation,' the airline wide-body acquisition will enable the airline to compete with Air India for the lucrative North American and European market as well as connecting emerging destinations such as Australia and East deliveries for the first order signed in 2024 are expected to start in 2027.
