Indian airline IndiGo places order for 30 additional wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft
Indian airline IndiGo said on Sunday it had signed an order for 30 more Airbus A350-900s, bringing its shopping list for the widebody aircraft from the European aircraft manufacturer to 60. "We are placing a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900s," said Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, a company founded in 2006 and already behind the largest contract by volume in the history of civil aviation -- 500 Airbus single-aisle aircraft by 2023. "It was last year that IndiGo signed a deal with Airbus for buying 30 Airbus A350 900s with 30 firm and 70 purchase rights, and today we're confirming the intention to confirm 30 out of those 70 also into a firm order. We can't wait for Airbus to deliver the 350s, and we thought this was a wonderful opportunity to actually double our firm orders from 30 to 60 and use the occasion here today, where the whole world is gathering in Delhi itself for that occasion", IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said.
