Footage captures terrifying football thugs in bar rampage as fans now banned from games

Shocking video footage showed bottles being launched into the bar where St Johnstone fans had gathered before a Scottish Cup. Two thugs who helped ambush rival football fans in a pub have been banned from attending games for two years. A court heard Airdrie supporter Cameron Patey "got a buzz" out of causing trouble. Shocking video footage showed bottles being thrown into a bar in the Lanarkshire town where St Johnstone fans had gathered before a Scottish Cup. Airdrie Sheriff Court heard a group of home fans confronted the Perth side's supporters and a fight spilled on to the street. Patey, 22, Ryan Lawrence, 29, and Nathan Dunsmore, 26, admitted causing a breach of the peace by fighting, shouting and swearing on January 20 last year. Annette Ward, prosecuting, said Airdrie fans were seen on CCTV leaving another pub and heading for the West End Bar before the match. She told the court: "They had their hoods up and their faces partially covered with scarves. The three accused were part of the group. A large group of St Johnstone fans were already inside the West End Bar. "As soon as the Airdrie supporters arrived there was an altercation that turned into a scuffle between the two groups. This quickly spilled on to the street and in the course of that an individual was assaulted by two unidentified males." The court heard that a fourth Airdrie fan was seen on CCTV picking up two bottles and throwing them into the pub. He was also charged but has since died. Patey has a previous conviction which resulted in him being given a football banning order. Lawrence also has football-related previous convictions. After the brawl, bar manager Scott Rae, 47, told the Record he was lucky to escape injury after being hit by a bottle as he tried to eject troublemakers. Scott said: "Most of the people in the pub at the time were Tartan Army fans who are friends of mine. I had invited them to come to watch the match." The trouble was linked to a tongue in cheek message posted by a St Johnstone fan who tweeted: "Any Airdrie supporters wanting a square go should come to the West End Bar. Bring your mates - you'll need them." The court heard that, when asked about his role in the violence, Patey told a social worker: "It's an escape. It gives me a buzz." But defence lawyer Tony Linden said: "He now describes his conduct as pathetic. His days of attending football matches and seeking out trouble are gone. He plans to leave the Airdrie area and has an offer of employment with a starting salary of £40,000." Fraser McKinnon, defending Lawrence, said he accepted responsibility for his behaviour, but the lawyer added: "From the CCTV, it appears his involvement was at the lower end of the scale." Nicky Matteo, for Dunsmore, told the court: "This happened at a time when he was drinking and taking drugs to excess." Sheriff Joseph Hughes imposed two-year football banning orders on Patey and Lawrence, both of Airdrie. These will cover all regulated games in the UK and the pair are also banned from watching televised football in licensed premises. The sheriff said: "I'm satisfied this offence was related to the football match that day. It matters not if it happened before the game started. It is appropriate to impose these banning orders to prevent violence or disorder at, or in connection with, football matches." Patey was also warned that he must behave himself over the next nine months while Lawrence will be under supervision for two years and electronically tagged for nine months, meaning he's confined to his home between 7pm and 7am each day. Sentence on Dunsmore, who is in custody on other matters, was deferred until December.

Good Samaritan had two teeth knocked out by drug addict he'd tried to help

Scott Kilbride, 30, lashed out when he was caught stealing the man's bank card. A Good Samaritan had two teeth knocked out when he was attacked in his own home by a drug addict he'd tried to help. Scott Kilbride lashed out when he was caught stealing the man's bank card. ‌ Airdrie Sheriff Court heard he knocked the householder to the floor then stamped twice on his head. ‌ Kilbride, 30, appeared from custody and admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement while on bail for other matters. It happened at a flat in King Street, Airdrie, on January 22. He also admitted stealing the victim's bank card. Annette Ward, prosecuting, told the court: "The victim was in his bedroom around 9am when he heard a noise in the kitchen. "He went to investigate and noticed some disarray. He then went to the living room and found Kilbride hiding behind the television. "Kilbride is known to him as the victim is aware of him having a drug addiction and has tried to support him. ‌ "The victim asked him why he was in the property and Kilbride said he had nowhere to go. "The victim had noticed his bank card was missing and asked for it back. "Kilbride then punched him on the face and head a number of times, causing him to fall. ‌ "While he was on the floor Kilbride stamped on his head twice." The victim managed to get to his feet and fled from his home. Meanwhile, Kilbride climbed out of a kitchen window and made off, but police traced him a short time later. ‌ He was in possession of the victim's bank card. The court heard the victim suffered cuts to his lips and lost two teeth. Sheriff Tony McGlennan deferred sentence on Kilbride, who admitted previous convictions, until next month and remanded him in custody. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Labour councillor guilty of 'deliberately driving at activists'

A LABOUR councillor shocked onlookers when he drove his car deliberately at a man filming a protest over school bus cuts. Raging Pat Patton then got out of his Hyundai Santa Fe and told victim Graham Cloughley to put his camera away. Patton, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, now faces disciplinary action from his party after he was found guilty of assault. Airdrie Sheriff Court heard the incident happened in nearby Coatbridge on June 26 last year, Patton's 59th birthday. READ MORE: Rachel Reeves rejects reports about change to £20,000 ISA allowance A small group of parents and around 10 children had gathered to voice anger at North Lanarkshire Council making changes to school bus services. The protest took place outside the general election campaign HQ of Frank McNally, who was a Labour councillor and the party's candidate for Coatbridge and Bellshill. McNally went on to win the seat. Patton (left) left the building and emerged from the car park in his Hyundai. (Image: Supplied) Cloughley, 46, told the court he was filming the protest and walked past the front of the councillor's car while it was not moving. He said: "His car had been stopped for approximately five seconds. He then looked at me and accelerated towards me, striking my knees. "This caused me to move back and then jerk forward. "I wasn't injured but I was shocked, taken aback that someone would do that. "Councillor Patton then got out of his car and tried to grab my phone." Cloughley's phone footage was shown in court. He could be heard telling Patton he had "no right to run me down". The councillor replied: "You have no right to record me." Asked if Patton's car could have hit him by accident, Cloughley told prosecutor Fergus Warner: "If it had been an accident he would have got out and apologised, but that didn't happen. "He was aggressive, clearly enraged and unapologetic." Cloughley's wife, Marissa, 48, said she was standing behind Patton's car and didn't see it hit her husband. But she told the court: "It moved quite fast and I saw Graham lurch forward. I was really alarmed. Pat Patton was aggressive and angry." Another parent, Mark Feeney, 52, added: "The car kind of lunged forward and hit Graham on the legs. I had a perfect view of it." Patton, who was elected as a councillor in 2022, said in evidence that he stopped his car when he saw Cloughley walk towards him. He added: "The car never came into contact with him because I stopped. "I got out and put up my hand to stop him filming. I had no intention of taking his phone from him." Fellow Labour councillor Maureen Devlin said she was only a few feet away and insisted Patton's car didn't strike Cloughley. She told defence lawyer Stephen MacBride: "If it had I would have seen it." Sheriff Walter Mercer said he wasn't convinced that Patton's car had struck Mr Cloughley but concluded: "It's beyond reasonable doubt that he assaulted Mr Cloughley by accelerating and driving the vehicle towards him." The sheriff said he considered the councillor's conduct "towards the lower end of the scale" and fined Patton, who has no previous convictions, £420.

Mum slams 'disgusting' Scots teacher jailed for upskirting her daughter in class

Sleazy Maths teacher Lee Dixon was sent to prison for 19 months this week after being caught taking pictures of youngsters at a Lanarkshire high school. A horrified mum has slammed a ' disgusting' teacher who was jailed for upskirting her daughter in class. Sleazy Maths teacher Lee Dixon was sent to prison for 19 months this week after being caught taking pictures of youngsters. ‌ The 30-year-old, from Bellshill, was arrested after another pupil spotted his mobile phone camera pointing at the underwear of a girl from beneath his desk at a Lanarkshire high school. ‌ Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that Dixon earlier filmed a 12-year-old girl before secretly taking videos of the underwear of the 15-year-old girl on two occasions. The mum of the older victim - who cannot be identified for legal reasons - told the Record the incident had a serious impact on her daughter's wellbeing and her prospects at school, leaving her struggling with exams as she anxiously waited for the case to reach court. She said: 'I'm disgusted that a person in such a position of power and trust with young people could do this. 'The fact he was so blase in doing this makes me concerned as to how often this was happening. I don't think other parents were fully aware of what went on. We don't know how many children were a target for this man. Other children could have been photographed. 'I'm happy he has been given a custodial sentence but it should have been much longer and he should be on the sex offenders' register for life. ‌ 'This man should never be allowed to work around young people again.' Police were called to the school in March 2023 when a classmate of the girl spotted what Dixon was doing and incriminating footage was found on his phone. The teacher's career is now over after he pleaded guilty to voyeurism charges and was sentenced on Tuesday. ‌ The victim's mum recalled how she received a call telling her what had happened and rushed to the school. She said: 'It seems the classroom had been in a bit of chaos afterwards. 'My daughter had left and went to go and look for her support teacher and told them what happened and they pulled the other girls in. ‌ 'She passed Dixon in the corridor on the way back. 'I was able to get there quite quickly to be with her. 'My daughter was doing so well at school before this. She had a high attendance and was articulate but it has been a nightmare the last couple of years. ‌ 'It's been horrendous because it happened just before the National 5s and has impacted on her exams. 'I feel as thought she's not been able to reach her full potential at high school with all of this going on. ‌ 'She's had the police coming in and fiscal phoning and has been facing the potential of having to go to court for a trial. 'Thankfully that didn't need to happen. 'The school has been good and she did get some therapy but not everyone has been so supportive. ‌ 'She hasn't felt as comfortable at school since and is not as trusting of the teaching staff. It's had a big impact on her mental health and wellbeing. 'It bothers her that she still doesn't know what pictures were taken and where they are now.' It's understood Dixon had only taught at the school for a matter of months when the offences came to light. ‌ Defence lawyer John Kilcoyne said Dixon was 'disgusted' by his 'despicable' behaviour. The solicitor told the court: 'He appreciates this was a gross breach of trust and knows his career is over. ‌ 'He has recently gained an HGV licence and hopes to get work as a driver.' Mr Kilcoyne said Dixon's wife has left him following his conviction but his family in general remain 'very supportive'. Several of his relatives were in court for the hearing. The lawyer said Dixon acknowledged the effect his behaviour had on the pupils and was assessed by a social worker as at low risk of reoffending. ‌ He added: 'My client is apprehensive of a custodial sentence and asks that he be given the opportunity to engage with social workers.' But Sheriff Derek Livingston said he had no choice but to send him to prison. He told Dixon: 'The horror those girls must have felt when this was discovered can only be imagined. ‌ 'Parents gave you responsibility to look after their children and educate them. 'Instead, you abused your position of trust and engaged in this voyeuristic behaviour. 'Until this happened you appear to have been a model citizen, but that breach of trust was such that I consider there to be absolutely no alternative to a custodial sentence.' Dixon was placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years. Scottish Ministers will be advised that he is deemed unsuitable to work with children and other vulnerable groups. Teacher, 30, who was caught filming up girls' skirts in the classroom is jailed and placed on the sex offenders' register

A 'despicable' maths teacher who took photos of young girls' underwear while they wore skirts in his classroom has been jailed for 19 months. Lee Dixon, 30, was caught by another pupil hiding a mobile phone camera beneath his desk at a school in Cumbernauld, Scotland. The crimes, which took place in March 2023, involved Dixon first filming a 12-year-old girl before then targeting a 15-year-old in another class, secretly filming her underwear on two occasions, the Daily Record reports. Airdrie Sheriff Court heard police were called in when a classmate of the older girl spotted the phone, prompting officers to find the incriminating footage. Passing sentence, Sheriff Derek Livingston said: 'The horror those girls must have felt when this was discovered can only be imagined.' Defence lawyer John Kilcoyne said Dixon, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, was 'disgusted' by his 'despicable' behaviour. The solicitor told the court: 'He appreciates this was a gross breach of trust and knows his career is over. 'He has recently gained an HGV licence and hopes to get work as a driver.' Mr Kilcoyne added Dixon's wife had left him since the conviction but that his family remained 'very supportive', turning up in court for the hearing. The lawyer said Dixon acknowledged the effect his behaviour had and argued he had been assessed by a social worker as at low risk of reoffending. He added his client was 'apprehensive of a custodial sentence' and instead wanted the opportunity to 'engage with social workers'. But Sheriff Livingston told Dixon: 'Parents gave you responsibility to look after their children and educate them. Scottish ministers will be advised he is deemed unsuitable to work with children and other vulnerable groups.
