Oman: Opaz floats tender to establish cold chains economic cluster in Duqm
Duqm: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz) has invited specialised and experienced companies to contest a consultancy services tender for establishing a cold chains' integrated economic cluster project that the Authority intends to establish at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (Sezad). Opaz set the 18thof March 2025 as the deadline for purchasing tender documents offered via the electronic tendering platform 'Isnad', affiliated with the Secretariat General of the Tender Board. The deadline for submitting bids is 17 April 2025. Eng. Ahmed Ali Akaak, CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad), said that the new project aims to develop an integrated infrastructure for cold chains, improve the efficiency of cold chains, enhance the competitiveness of Omani exports and support economic diversification. Akaak pointed out that the project also seeks to upgrade the capabilities of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm to store and distribute perishable products like food and pharmaceutical products more efficiently. OPAZ invites bids for cold chain economic cluster consultancy
DUQM: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has invited specialised consultancy firms to bid for a tender to develop an integrated economic cluster for cold chains at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD). The tender documents are available on the electronic platform "Isnad" of the General Secretariat of the Tender Board, with a purchase deadline of March 18 and a bid submission deadline of April 17. According to Eng Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, the project aims to establish world-class cold chain infrastructure, enhancing the efficiency of storage and distribution for perishable goods such as food and pharmaceuticals. By improving logistics and reducing waste, the initiative will boost the competitiveness of Omani exports while supporting the country's economic diversification efforts. 'The project is designed to meet international standards, ensuring Omani products gain smoother access to global markets,' Akaak stated. He also highlighted Al Duqm's strategic location on the Arabian Sea and its connectivity to international shipping lanes as a key advantage. SEZAD's existing infrastructure — including Duqm Port, Duqm Airport and the fishing port — positions the area as an ideal hub for cold chain logistics. The project is expected to attract foreign investment, create jobs for Omanis and stimulate growth in the logistics sector.

Duqm – Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) is planning to add integrated infrastructure for cold chain logistics to its existing facilities that include Fisheries Port, Duqm Port and Duqm Airport. For this, Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has invited specialised and experienced companies to participate in a consultancy services tender for the Integrated Economic Cluster for Cold Chain Logistics in SEZAD. 'The integrated cold chain hub aims to enhance the capabilities of SEZAD in storing and distributing perishable goods, such as food products and pharmaceuticals, with high efficiency. This will help reduce waste and improve product quality,' Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, stated. He explained that the project is focused on boosting competitiveness of Omani exports by providing an integrated infrastructure that enables these products to meet international standards, thereby facilitating entry into global markets. 'Additionally, the project aims to support economic diversification and stimulate the logistics services sector in SEZAD.' First 'Duqm Sports Forum' kicks off at SEZAD
Duqm – The inaugural Duqm Sports Forum commenced today at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD), aiming to promote sports activities and increase awareness across the region. The event has attracted participation from 19 institutions spanning the public and private sectors, alongside 800 players competing in a variety of sports. The forum also features 61 administrators and supervisors overseeing the activities. Running for four days, the event promises a comprehensive sporting experience for participants and visitors alike. The forum will showcase eight sports, including beach soccer, beach volleyball, tug of war, tartan football, indoor volleyball (for both men and women), and padel. Matches and activities will take place across several venues, including Duqm Beach Park, OQ8 Hall, and Park Inn Padel Courts. Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm, highlighted that hosting the forum reinforces Duqm's position as a premier destination for investment and leisure. He also emphasised the significance of the region's beaches, which will host various beach sports, and noted Duqm's commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents and workers through such activities. 'The forum reflects our drive towards sustainable development by organising events that not only contribute to community development but also foster stronger social ties,' said Eng. Akaak. 'We aim to integrate our growth across multiple fields, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.'
