PM Modi- File image India planning to destroy Azerbaijan without a single weapon: In a significant move against the forces which helped Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan tensions, India is reportedly accelerating arms sales to Armenia. For those unversed, there is a growing strategic alignment between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan which is acting against India. Moreover, Azerbaijan is fighting Armenia in the conflict in the Nagorno Karabakh region and if India helps Azerbaijan, it will be destroying Azerbaijan without a single weapon. According to media reports, India plans to deliver a second consignment of Akash-1S surface-to-air missile systems to Armenia along with other defence items. Readers can note that the defence ties between Delhi and Armenia's government have grown steadily since 2020 and the recent move from India could be a big drawback for anti-India Azerbaijan. Pakistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan set to strengthen anti-India nexus In a significant development after India's Operation Sindoor, the growing nexus between Islamabad-Ankara-Baku is expected to deepen and broaden further during the visit of Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Azerbaijan after concluding his ongoing visit to Iran. According to media reports, a trilateral summit of Pakistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan is expected to be held in Lachin, a strategic city that connects Azerbaijan to Armenia, in the next 48 hours to take 'important decisions on joint strategies' in several fields, including defence. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be paying a visit to Azerbaijan, the Turkish media also confirmed. Sharif arrived in Tehran recently after wrapping up his visit to Istanbul. From Azerbaijan, he is scheduled to travel to Tajikistan, the last leg of his hastily-planned four-nation tour after India's decisive Operation Sindoor that demolished terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), earlier this month. India imports this key item from Azerbaijan; which items would become expensive if India cuts ties with Baku? Check complete list here
File/Representational India Azerbaijan trade: Turkey and Azerbaijan, along with China, were among the few nations that supported Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan conflict, due to which New Delhi has taken several steps to downgrade diplomatic and trade ties with both these countries. According to geopolitical experts, India may cut trade ties with Azerbaijan in wake of the latter's support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. But what does India export from Azerbaijan? Let us find out. Crude oil is the most important item which India imports from Azerbaijan, accounting for 98 percent of Baku's total exports to India. Notably, India is the third largest buyer of Azerbaijani crude oil, and a boycott of this key export could have a significant impact on Azerbaijan's economy. India also imports animal feed, organic chemicals, essential oils and perfumes, raw hides and leather from Azerbaijan, and the prices of these items are likely to go up if the trade relations between the two countries are affected due to ongoing tensions. What does India export to Azerbaijan? Indian exports to Azerbaijan include essentials like tobacco, tobacco products, tea, coffee, cereals, chemicals, plastics, rubber, paper and paperboard, and ceramics. The prices of these items will likely surge in Azerbaijan if trade ties are cut. Additionally, Turkey and Azerbaijan have emerged as favorite vacation destinations for Indian tourists in recent years, but a major portion of recent bookings have been cancelled in wake of the current tensions, dealing a severe blow to the tourism industries of these countries. India to send arms consignment to Armenia Meanwhile, India is reportedly preparing to send a $720 million arms consignment to Armenia, Azerbaijan's rival. According to media reports, Armenia has signed a deal to acquire 15 units of India's indigenously developed Akash-1S air defense system. Turkey and Azerbaijan came out in open support of Pakistan during the recent conflict with India, with Ankara supplying military drones to the Pakistan armed forces which were used to attack military and residential structures in India.
