Chris Brown released from UK jail on $6.7 million bail
Chris Brown has been released from a U.K. jail after posting bail of over $6 million. The Associated Press reported that a judge in London's Southwark Crown Court ordered Brown's release on Wednesday on 5 million-pound bail -- about $6.7 million -- nearly a week after the R&B singer was arrested and taken into custody on a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent in connection to an alleged 2023 incident that took place in London, according to London's Metropolitan Police. Chris Brown in custody until June following UK arrest The AP reported that Brown, 36, faces allegations that he beat music producer Amadou "Abe" Diaw with a bottle, seriously injuring him outside the Tape London nightclub two years ago. Brown was on tour at the time of the alleged incident and returned to the U.K. this month ahead of his latest Breezy Bowl XX world tour, which is scheduled to kick off in the Netherlands and Germany in June before a U.K. leg that will stop in Manchester, Cardiff, London and Birmingham. Brown's release means his world tour can continue as long as the bail is paid to guarantee his future appearance in court. Brown was initially scheduled to make a court appearance on June 13 and would have missed at least three tour dates if he had been held until that time. Rapper Omololu Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby, has also been charged alongside Brown. The Metropolitan Police said the 38-year-old is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the same case. It is not known whether Akinlolu was also released from jail. Neither Akinlolu nor Brown has entered a plea. They were both ordered on Wednesday to appear in court June 20, according to the AP. Diaw previously filed a lawsuit in October 2023 in Los Angeles against Brown and Akinlolu, as well as Live Nation Worldwide, Live Nation Entertainment, RCA Records, Sony Corporation of America and Sony Music Entertainment, alleging Brown "brutally assaulted" him at the Tape London nightclub on Feb. 19 that year, while Brown was "traveling for his 2023 'Under the Influence' Tour promoted by Live Nation in the United Kingdom." Diaw claims in the lawsuit that Brown allegedly "inflicted severe and lasting injuries" on him with a "large" bottle of tequila by allegedly "beating him over the head with crushing blows" and "ruthlessly stomp[ing]" him "for approximately 30 seconds." Brown has not responded to the case publicly. The lawsuit remains open with the next hearing scheduled for June 2026 in Los Angeles Superior Court, in Santa Monica, California. Brown has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement over the years. Most notably, the singer pleaded guilty to felony assault of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009. He was ordered to rehab but was later kicked out of a rehab facility and spent over two months in a Los Angeles County jail before he was released in June 2014, as the AP reported at the time. Brown's probation in that case lasted until 2015.

Chris Brown's pal remanded in custody after court hearing over nightclub attack
Chris Brown's musician pal Omololu Omari Akinlolu has been denied bail and remanded in custody after appearing in court today. The Metropolitan Police announced today that US national Akinlolu, 38, had been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. Police said the charge relates to an assault, which reportedly took place at a venue in Hanover Square in London, on Sunday, 19 February 2023. Akinlolu appeared in the dock flanked by security guards at Manchester Magistrates' Court wearing a pink tracksuit. He spoke to confirm him name and address, which was given to the court as The Lowry Hotel in Salford, which is the address Chris Brown also gave during his hearing yesterday, MEN reports. During today's hearing, prosecutor Peter Conroy told the court the prosecution will allege Akinlolu 'repeatedly punched' victim Abe Diaw 'in the head'. He added that it is alleged an incident at the London nightclub started at a bar area and continued across the bar into a different room within the establishment. The prosecutor also told the court how police attempted to contact both Akinlolu and Brown on 'several occasions' in an attempt to invite them to voluntary interviews. He added that the interviews did not take place because Akinlolu and Brown did not respond. The court also heard how Akinlolu was arrested in Manchester on Friday night. Grace Forbes, who is representing Akinlolu, told the court: "He will be entering a not guilty plea." But a plea was not entered during the hearing today. The defence added to the court that if Akinlolu had been trying to avoid police in the UK, he wouldn't have come to the UK. Ms Forbes said: "That would be an extraordinary thing to do if he had any intention to avoid the police in this country." An application for bail was made for Akinlolu as Ms Forbes proposed a surety involving his mother's 'life-savings'. She added that Akinlolu would surrender his passport, reside in Manchester and not apply for any travel documents and proposed that he wouldn't enter any port or airport, and abide by a curfew. However, bail was refused and Akinlolu was remanded in custody. Chairman of the bench, Ronald Marshall, says: "On this occasion we are refusing bail and you will be kept in custody." The case is adjourned. Akinlolu will appear at Southwark Crown Court in London on June 20. Brown and fellow musician Akinlolu released music together in the past, as Hoody Baby featured on Brown's track No Such Thing, released in 2020. Meanwhile, Brown features on Hoody Baby's song Flexing, which also has features from Lil Wayne, Quavo and Gudda Gudda. Yesterday, 36 year old musician Chris Brown appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court after being charged with grievous bodily harm with intent by the Metropolitan Police. He was arrested at 2am on Thursday at The Lowry Hotel in the city after police discovered he was in the country ahead of upcoming tour dates in Europe and the UK. Brown has been remanded in custody until June 13 by a judge in Manchester over an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Following Brown's arrest, a spokesman for The Metropolitan Police said: "A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. "The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit." On Thursday evening, Adele Kelly, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, said: "We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown, 36, with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. "The alleged incident occurred in London on February 19 2023. He will have his first court appearance on Friday May 16 at Manchester Magistrates' Court. "The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial. "It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings." Following the news Brown had been remanded in custody until June 13, dates for his upcoming tour have been thrown into chaos. His Breezy Bowl XX Tour is due to start in Amsterdam on June 8 - but Brown will be in custody ahead of his appearance at Southwark crown court in London on June 13.

Musician charged with Chris Brown in alleged London nightclub assault
LONDON -- A fellow musician and friend of Chris Brown has been charged alongside the Grammy-winning singer on allegations they beat and seriously injured a music producer at a London nightclub in 2023, police said Saturday. Omololu Akinlolu, 38, who performs under the name 'Hoody Baby,' was due to appear in Manchester Magistrates' Court on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Brown, 36, was jailed without bail on the same charge Friday, throwing his upcoming tour into question. He is scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court in London on June 13, which is the third day of his world tour. Akinlolu is a rapper from Dallas, Texas, who has collaborated with Brown and Lil Wayne. He also goes by the names 'Fat Leopard' and 'Super Hood.' Police gave no details on what role Akinlolu played in the alleged assault but said he was charged in connection with the same incident as Brown. Brown was on tour in the U.K. in February 2023 when he launched an unprovoked attack on producer Abe Diaw, striking him several times with a bottle at the Tape nightclub in the swanky Mayfair neighborhood in London, prosecutor Hannah Nicholls said in court Friday. Brown then chased Diaw and punched and kicked him in an attack caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people, she said. Brown did not enter a plea and only spoke to confirm his name, birth date and gave his address as the Lowry Hotel, where he was arrested in Manchester early Thursday and taken into custody. Brown's representative has not responded to multiple requests for comment from The Associated Press. Brown, often called by his nickname Breezy, burst onto the music scene as a teen in 2005 and has become a major hitmaker over the years with notable songs such as 'Run It,' 'Kiss Kiss' and 'Without You.' He won his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 for 'F.A.M.E.' and then earned his second gold trophy in the same category for '11:11 (Deluxe)' earlier this year. He is scheduled to launch an international tour next month with artists Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker and Bryson Tiller, opening with a European leg on June 8 in Amsterdam before starting North America shows in July. ___ Jonathan Landrum Jr. contributed to this report from Los Angeles.
