Lucky escape for 2 guests as AC unit fire spreads into hotel room
Nagpur: Two guests in a hotel at HB Town Square near Pardi had a lucky escape on Sunday after a fire broke out in an outdoor unit of an air conditioner (AC) in the gallery and engulfed their room, causing damage estimated at around Rs3 lakh.
No injuries were reported.
According to Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) fire department, the fire broke out on the second floor around 11.30 am. One of the hotel staff called Kalamna fire station in-charge Aklim Sheikh, who quickly dispatched a fire tender to the spot. "We rushed to the spot and prevented the fire from spreading further," said Sheikh.
The guests fled the room through the door, leaving their clothes and laptop behind, which were destroyed in the fire.
AC and other furniture in the room were also charred. "The hotel staff had already started dousing the flames with fire equipment at the hotel when we arrived at the scene," said an officer.
It took firefighters more than an hour to douse the flames. The hotel was temporarily vacated until the fire was extinguished. The reason behind the fire is unknown.
Meanwhile, two more fires were reported at other locations between 11am and 2pm.
Both fires were reported in garbage heaps.
The first fire was reported along a nullah near Pratap Nagar. A fire tender from Trimurti Nagar fire station was pressed into service. Another fire was reported in a pile of garbage on Nara Road at around 2pm. A fire tender from Sugat Nagar fire station extinguished the fire.
