'A tragic incident occurred at the BJMC UG hostel mess, where an aircraft crashed, resulting in multiple student injuries and admissions to Civil Hospital Ahmedabad,' it said. 'However, there has been no official confirmation regarding casualties, including deaths or missing students,' it added. The Air India flight AI171, bound for London, crashed shortly after take-off near Ahmedabad airport, confirmed the State Police Control Room. It was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. About 20-30 injuries have been reported after the Air India plane bound for London crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday (June 12), Dr Akshay Dongardhive of FAIMA told Network18. 'My son had gone to the hostel during lunch break, and the plane crashed there. My son is safe, and I have spoken to him. He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered some injuries,' Ramila told ANI. Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, comprising 90 personnel, have been moved from Gandhinagar to the plane crash site. An additional three teams are being dispatched from Vadodara, according to the NDRF. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences regarding the accident. 'The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,' he said on X. An eyewitness of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad said that the aircraft crashed into the building of the BJ Medical College in Meghani Nagar where resident doctors were staying. Speaking to CNN-News18, Harshit, a medical student, said he was having lunch at the time when the plane crashed into the building next to the one he was in. Harshit's friend, who was at the crash site, is currently admitted to the hospital. Harshit mentioned that the building where the plane crashed housed resident doctors. Another man, claiming to be an eyewitness, told news agency ANI, '…I have my office 200 metres from here. As soon as I stepped out of the office, I heard a very loud noise, and smoke filled the area suddenly. A commotion broke out here and then we saw that this accident had occurred. When I reached the spot, I saw debris scattered here, there was a fire and smoke was billowing here. Nothing was visible…We then came to know that the wings of the aircraft fell here and that an aircraft crashed…We don't know about the casualties but there is a building here where doctors reside." Meanwhile, Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) also shared visuals showing parts of the crashed Air India flight stuck in the hostel mess building of the college. Dr Akshay Dongardhive of FAIMA said around 20-30 students could have been injured on the ground due to the crash. The flight which was flying from Ahmedabad to London had 242 people on board. The aircraft was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which is a mid-size, twin-engine, wide-body jet airliner. The plane was carrying at least 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. It is being reported that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board the ill-fated flight. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu about the crash. Images shared by FAIMA show a part of the plane stuck in the building of the hostel, which could be seen to have suffered damages. Dr Akshay Dongardhive of FAIMA said around 20-30 students could have been injured on the ground due to the crash. 'We are deeply shocked about the news of AI plane Meanwhile, videos from the crash site show parts of the crashed aircraft lying around whil people were seen pushing these parts. The plane was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian passenger. Heavy smoke was visible from Dharpur near the Meghaninagar area in Ahmedabad. The fire brigade has rushed to the spot, and emergency response teams are being mobilised.
