'Vijay Rupani's last rites will be performed in Rajkot': BJP leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): BJP leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama visited the residence of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, who died in the AI-171 plane crash on Thursday. He said that Rupani's last rites will be performed in Rajkot. Speaking to ANI, BJP leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, 'His (Vijay Rupani's) last rites will be performed in Rajkot. The date is subject to the result of the DNA test.' The late Vijay Rupani's son, Rushab Rupani, arrived at his father's residence in Gandhinagar on Saturday. Meanwhile, markets in Rajkot remained closed for half a day on Saturday as a mark of respect to the former Gujarat Chief Minister. A resident, Navneet, paying homage to Vijay Rupani, stated that Rajkot will never forget him. He admired the BJP leader for bringing and completing several developmental projects in the city. Speaking to ANI, he said, 'This is such an accident that the people of Rajkot will never forget. Vijay Rupani loved Rajkot immensely, always meeting the people and bonding with them. He worked closely with his office and the government to provide essential facilities, like the Rajkot Airport, hospitals, overbridges, and water resources. His love for Rajkot led to these developments, ensuring Rajkot always cherishes him. Rajkot will never forget him...' Vijay Rupani was one of the 241 passengers who lost their lives in the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171, a London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, on Thursday. Vijay Rupani was a two-time Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021. Rupani was also appointed as the BJP's person in charge of Punjab. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. Indian Medical Association's Gujarat President Mehul Shah said that four medical students and a doctor's wife died after the flight AI-171 crashed into the BJ Medical College. (ANI)

Supriya Sule's ‘big alarm' after Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad
After the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule on Friday raised serious concerns over India's transport safety, calling civil aviation a big alarm and a "red flag for a long time." Speaking to ANI, Sule said, "Civil aviation is a big alarm. It's been a red flag for a long time. I request the Government of India to come out with a white paper." "The entire transport, be it roads, airways or civil aviation, there are a lot of concerns about safety." She added, "I thank Nitin Gadkari because he has been openly asking MPs to focus on safety. Road safety has been his priority. All of us have tried our best to work with him to make sure infrastructure and safety improve," she told ANI. Sule noted that despite efforts in road safety, the government had struggled to maintain safety in railways and civil aviation. "Unfortunately, our experience in railways and civil aviation has been challenging. The accidents are very alarming. I am going to discuss it in the Parliament. I'm going to meet Ashwini Vaishnaw," Sule said. She highlighted the massive number of commuters in Mumbai alone, saying, "The number of people using railways in Mumbai is huge. The government of India needs to put in a lot of effort and improve safety in the railways pan-India." While expressing her grief over the crash and its national impact, she said, "It's very painful. I appreciate that yesterday Amit Shah and today the Prime Minister went. The whole country, and the world, has reached out. It's been a very difficult 24 hours for India. We are all deeply pained." She also warmly remembered BJP leader and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, saying, "Vijay Rupaniji had been a most wonderful colleague to all of us." Calling the incident 'shocking and disturbing,' Swami Chidanand said the entire environment was engulfed in grief as thousands joined in the collective prayer for the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the sole survivor. He also paid tribute to former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who died in the crash, describing him as a 'very dear person.' Speaking to ANI on Friday, Swami Chidanand Saraswati said, 'The accident is shocking and disturbing. The whole environment is sad... Today, thousands of people performed aarti on the sacred bank of the Ganga in Parmarth Niketan for the souls of those who left us. We also prayed that injured people recover quickly and return to their homes... Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was a very dear person, who passed away in the accident... PM Modi says that India is his family... Whenever there is a moment of sorrow, he is always there... He went there and spoke to the survivor and expressed grief to the bereaved family members...' The deadly accident has shaken the country and led to condolences and prayers pouring in from several states. In Uttarakhand's Haridwar, hundreds of people gathered on the banks of the Ganga River to offer prayers for the deceased. Locals and priests performed rituals and lit lamps as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the horrific crash. In Tamil Nadu, members of the Rameswaram People's Protection Council paid heartfelt homage to the victims at Agni Theertham beach in Pamban. Flowers were floated into the sea, and silence was observed to remember the passengers and crew who died in the crash. In Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, the King George Medical University (KGMU) held a solemn condolence meeting to honour the memory of those who perished. University officials and students came together to express grief and observe a moment of silence. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 plane bound for London's Gatwick crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. Immediately after departing Runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the airport perimeter, and heavy black smoke began emanating from the accident site. Vishwashkumar Ramesh miraculously survived the Air India plane crash a day ago, in which 241 other passengers died. Kumar, a British national of Indian origin, was seated in row 11, at the left window seat in the flight's economy class section, right behind an emergency exit. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said. (ANI)
