Morocco Urges Need for Two-State Solution As Netanyahu Vows Full Control of Gaza
Rabat – Morocco's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said on Tuesday that Morocco strongly believes the two-state solution is the only path to peace between Palestinians and Israelis.
He made the statement in Rabat during the opening of the fifth meeting of the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, hosted by Morocco in partnership with the Netherlands.
Bourita said the two-state solution is the 'only option where no one loses,' explaining that Palestinians would gain their freedom and dignity, while Israelis would get safety and stability, and the entire region would have a better chance at development and peace.
He said that this solution is not just a slogan or political tool, but a moral duty and a realistic political choice. 'Wars have been tried, violence has been used, but they never led to peace,' Bourita remarked.
The foreign minister said it is time to turn this solution into a clear roadmap with specific steps. He also warned that some people don't want peace, arguing that 'extremists on both sides' feed on the 'conflict' and only pretend to support Palestinians without giving them real help.
He added that the two-state solution was backed by the international community decades ago and remains the only fair and lasting path. It would allow the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Throughout history, Morocco has stayed committed to this vision, Bourita said, under the leadership of both King Hassan II and King Mohammed VI, who also chairs the Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Committee. Morocco has always worked quietly and wisely to promote peace, added the minister.
He recalled that King Mohammed VI had set out a clear way to break the current deadlock in his speech to the last Arab Summit. The King called for an immediate ceasefire, an end to violence in the West Bank, including house demolitions and forced expulsions. The monarch also urged to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need, and further support for UNRWA. The monarch also called for launching a full plan for Gaza's reconstruction under Palestinian leadership and international supervision.
Bourita also spoke about the goals of the international coalition, including learning from past peace efforts, strengthening Palestinian institutions under President Mahmoud Abbas, and focusing on building a strong economy for peace.
He said Morocco's Al-Quds Agency, created by the King, already plays a big role in supporting the Palestinian economy and could do even more. But, he added, 'no economic support can replace a real political solution. We don't want temporary painkillers. We want a real cure for the conflict.'
Gaza under intensified attacks
While Morocco and several other countries push for peace, the catastrophe in Gaza continues to worsen. Israeli forces are carrying out one of the deadliest genocidal attacks the region has ever seen.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israeli forces will 'take control of all' of Gaza. In a video posted on his Telegram account, he claimed that fighting in Gaza is still intense but said Israeli troops are 'making progress.'
Netanyahu also said Israel would allow a 'basic' amount of food into Gaza to avoid famine, after pressure from allies who fear the world is turning away from Israel due to the suffering of Palestinian civilians. 'We must not let the population sink into famine,' Netanyahu said. 'Even friends of Israel will not tolerate images of mass starvation.' However, he added that the aid would be very limited and carefully monitored to prevent Hamas from accessing it.
Since October 2023, Gaza has been facing a full-blown genocide. Tens of thousands of civilians have been murdered at the hands of the IOF, including numerous children, with the death toll reaching 53,600. Homes, hospitals, schools, and water systems have been carpet bombed, with civilians trapped, without safe places to go.
Palestinians across Gaza are running out of food, water, and medicine in what analysts are warning will present one of the deadliest man-made famines of the century. The United Nations continues to call for an immediate ceasefire, but Israel has instead intensified attacks and killed hundreds of civilians in a couple of days.
